yeah crash protection rules have changed so oem's can get a a better rating on the nhtsa tests. you should see the space between the front grille and the radiators on the new tundra. its ridiculous how many radiators are in that thing now.

Yeah, it's just that I really prefer the new interior on the 4R. But we shall see how the pricing/trims plays out in Canada.

I'm sure any regular use is fine. Doubtful anyone here is a hybrid battery expert, especially the naysayers.

It's not a lead acid battery like your starter battery, which will degrade after not being used for a little while. And every time you drive, you can see the car tops up the charge.

Also unlike a lead acid, the hybrid batteries don't just up and die; they're more like your phone or laptop battery where the capacity starts to drop. So mpg might decrease as the car ages, but that could also be due to other aging factors as well.

I’m going crazy over here. This is a grab handle on the passenger side on the new Tacoma. It doesn’t have a hole. It’s covered, your hand cannot go in it. Cost savings out the Wazoo? It’s literally useles.

Correct. The main way lead acid batteries go bad is by sulfation (lead sulfate crystals growing on the plates) and is minimized by storing the battery 100% fully charged whenever possible to keep all the lead out of solution. This is why the charging system in the car can just hold the battery at a constant overcharge of 14+ volts, it doesn’t hurt at all and actually benefits.

LiIon and NiMH are VERY different.

Lithium degrades both at high and low charge and last the longest when kept roughly half full. Any overcharge causes immediate damage. The hybrid system manages this carefully and most only use the middle 60-80% of the usable range. The batteries don’t really self discharge at all so as long as they are in that range and don’t have much parasitic draw can be stored a long time.

NiMH is kind of between lead and lithium. It’s not very sensitive to storage charge (empty, half, full, doesn’t really matter) and it a little less sensitive to overcharge than Li (but still not a good idea). However it does tend to self discharge in storage if not used unless it’s a special low self discharge formula like eneloop.

also ni-mh deals with cold weather better than li-ion, but technically in the bof use, its a mute point since its not the primary drivers for the vehicles.

gopro mount? I'm being serious. I very much think there's a huge social media craze on overlanding which Toyota will reap huge rewards on with all the extra add-ons they now sell.

And they get a lot of free advertising. Why not make it slightly easier for people to make advertisements for them?

that looks to be like a manufacturing error where the machine didnt cut out the opening. man some people get bent out of shape for something that can be resolved.

god forbid if there is bird poop on the windshield while sitting on the lot :)

Looks like it would have been caught before getting this far, if it was to be that way.

Just checked my Tundra and it's grab handle is functional.

They look better than the early 5th gens.

My '03 was the best vehicle I've ever owned. The '19 is great, but not better.

It’s starting to feel to me like somehow this pre production part snuck through or something. Probably easy to confirm in Toyotas marketing photos.

To each their own. I bought my 4th Gen b/c of an either but not both about the 5th Gen: ridiculously overpriced (even used) and meh looks with all the angles and corners. Ten years and 158K miles later (I bought it with 96K miles), not just zero regrets but absolute certainty that I made the right call for me.

Try using your left hand. Looks like there might be enough of a void to grab.

You know, on the best gen, the driver had a handle too. :D

It’s a useless handle. I tried with the left, it’s just not doable. Lol, they seriously cheaped out on that? There’s not enough give to do anything with that handle.

    It was designed that way.

    https://youtu.be/bZ025OrJOTs?si=7KyMfd7IMZNmnHrT&t=77

Also found yet another place they put TRD badging, at least for the Tacoma. Interior trim of the rear doors. They went absolutely bezerk with the badging. Also says 'Tacoma' on the headlights.

Also, they have hidden tiny messages in morse code around various spots on the vehicle.

I agree the Limited and Platinum feature set are nice to me as well, I would prefer the Platinum for the most options, but cannot stand the blackout look. I wonder if it will be available with normal trim color as well?

I like most of the changes.

The one thing I bummed about is the rear seat. I really like the ability to fold down the center section while leaving the driver and passenger sides up. That seems to be missing from this gen as it appears to be a standard 60/40 split.

Hard to fault Toyota for this. Look at all the people that add TRD to everything they possibly can........like TRD radiator caps lol.

Toyota just giving their customers what they want.

Does this really bother you? Seems like you're grasping at things to complain about with this one.

On the Trailhunter the is a video over on The Autopian where the author crawls under it and in one brief part you can see that the sliders are much like the 5th gen factory sliders wherein how they attach to the frame are not very beefy compared to what the aftermarket has to offer.
