I'm on board. They were tasked with a huge objective - don't ruin the 4Runner. They absolutely achieved that goal. Like many, I prefer a naturally aspirated engine, but every automaker is being forced into this. At least the engine design has a few million miles under its belt (I think).

Has anyone seen a palette of available colors? May be too soon for that.

This snowball will never stop but more electronic gizmos = expensive repairs down the line. What happens when that huge screen gets cracked?

It's funny, I bought my 4th Gen b/c I was happy with it and not entranced by the 5th Gen's look or cost and that has continued into the 6th Gen. Paid off, easily to work on and mod, goes anywhere I want to go.

personally i am leaning platinum, since i need the locking center diff for ND winters. my town has way to many stop lights on uphill inclines that always ice over.

the deal breaker will be how much chrome the platinum has compared to the limited. you can option mechanically the limited the same as a platinum. all i would miss is on the limited that is standard on the platinum is :

    1. 2nd row heated seats
    2. hud (not an issue since i wear polarized sunglasses and it defeats the purpose of a hud / our tundra plat has a hud and i can never use it now)

right now the limited shows only chrome/silver on the front valance, roof rails and rear valance. if they follow the difference on the tundra platinum (4R limited) vs the tundra capstone (4R platinum) they added way to much chrome to the capstone.

there is probably more minor improvements over the limited that hasnt been posted until official website config reveal.

BUT DO THEY HAVE AUTO HEADLIGHTS :D I love the new green color! Rear leg room may be a deal breaker with 3 kids I transport to and from school daily though, especially given my daughter is already taller than me and only in 8th grade

    Lol nice.
Just referring to a dedicated off road SUV to compete with Bronco and the Jeep offerings.

Worsening approach and departure angle is not a step forward for the off road community.
I was hoping for better departure angle. Maybe a steel rear bumper from the factory similar to the Tacoma trailhunter?...

Seems like the 4Runner is taking a step toward luxury SUV, and a step away from off road capability.

i kinda like the look mostly, especially the trd pro and trailhunter, that greenish color is great.
but the potential smaller amount of rear legroom is an issue
as is the not fold flat seats.

i am already thinking of trading my 12 TE in for a 24 ORP and may just do that now instead of going all in on the 1st year of the 6th gen.

Yes it will look at the 2nd gen Tacoma resell value they skyrocket when people realized how crappy the 3rd gen Tacoma engine and transmission are. A low mileage second gen Tacoma fetches a hefty sum especially since they’re getting more rare same for a low mileage fj

this new turbo 4cylinder is by far the most controversial and hated Toyota truck engine so enough people will always want the 1gr

I do agree that they seem to have taken a step in the wrong direction. They have plenty of options for people who prioritize comfort over utility.

I'd just rather see them fill that slot with a more rugged 4Runner. The FJC was a novelty, and really not much different from the 4Runner as far as capability.

I like that color better then 2024 underground. Sadly it was not available on the 2024 and I wanted the very last year of the 5th gen so...

Thanks for the reply. For me that's a "non starter" in terms of purchase interest so it's sayonara 6th gen.

    I second this. I had a 2nd Gen 2012 Tacoma with 40k miles that I traded for a 2nd Gen 2015 Tacoma - And I got 75% of value on the trade-in.

True. Just the angles really. When I wheel with FJ's they don't lose their rear bumper constantly... and I'm jealous of that.
I do agree that it isn't a very practical vehicle. Small back seats and very little cargo space make the FJ a little unlivable.

Still though, I view the FJ as Toyota's dedicated wheeler. I don't love seeing the 4Runner move toward the already crowded luxury SUV space. I would have liked to see a more ruggedized 4R with better departure angle. Let the Land Cruiser and Lexus options occupy Toyota's luxury SUV space.

Ehh. I'd say the 2GR-FKS will be remembered as a worse engine, unless the turbo 4 has some serious problems.

From a power perspective, this will be one of the best motors ever put in a 4Runner, with the only thing coming close being the 2UZ V8.

Yes--that was my understanding both from Car & Driver's article and Doug DeMuro's recent video.

Think of it as one more model that has full-time 4WD than we have now (and one more I'll never be able to afford -lol)

No kidding?? Comfy seats is supposed to be Lexus' jam. My wife's 2015 NX 200's seats are the most comfy I've ever sat in. We've nicknamed it The Sofa.

I think if they had made 1 vehicle that was positioned between the LC250 and the 6th gen, it would still get most of the sales these 2 vehicles will.

Then take the Land Cruiser and make it a rugged off road vehicle. This crowding is even worse once you consider the Lexis offering.

The decreased angles to me is purely a consequence of lengthening it, and not an intentional change. I would have gone in the other direction if I were Toyota because they have more larger midsize SUVs than smaller midsize. It might have a lot to do with Toyota trying to use 1 frame between everything.

The EPA needs to do more to close the footprint loophole, I don’t think the 4runner would have gotten larger without it.

Doug de Muro makes his living hyping stuff. Some people like the updated design, some don't.

    And you know what?

    IT'S ONLY A TRUCK.

The new 4Runner is neither important, nor urgent in the world right now. :p

Maybe that's what a majority of customers want? I'd guess a majority of 4Runner buyers never visit an internet forum. :)

EPA requirements are based on the vehicle's footprint. That's one of the reasons vehicles keep getting bigger.

    You're not wrong!

Unfortunately, enthusiasts are just a small percentage of the customer base. So, if Toyota has to disappoint us to draw in more new customers, we can't really be surprised.
