They are trying to get buyers to go for the more expensive trims. By making SR5 barebones.

There are several 2024 Tacomas and LCs priced below MSRP sitting on my dealers lot yesterday.
    Counted almost 15

My gen 4 SR5 had soft close trunk, automatic digital AC and higher trims had real leather. For gen 5 only limited got real leather and digital AC (maybe TRD as well). Gen 6 became even more spartan aka cheap. I don’t like this trend.

The SR5 was $30,475 in 2006. That would be $54,700 in Feb 2025 dollars.

    I don't like that trend. :(

SR5 is a real problem for Toyota.

What a year ago was the volume trim offering a ton of standard amenities at a reasonable MSRP has been transformed into the price-leader, that makes you regret not being able to pay more for silly things like a full-size gauge cluster or hood insulation.

Good news is that I’ve just returned from the year 2026….and there’s a whole lot of marked-down 2025 SR5’s sitting on dealer lots.

Something to watch out for but once upon a time, only fools (supposedly) paid MSRP for a volume vehicle so it’s not necessarily 1:1 comparable and (opinion alert!) I suspect vehicles keep the inflation number down a little bit as MSRP tracks it but other things in the “basket” are way up.

I just built a 2025 Limited AWD on Toyota's website and the base is $57,400.

$35,820 in 2004 dollars is $58,300 in Feb 2025 dollars.

I understand the pushback for piss poor content on the SR5, but I think Toyota has done what they could to keep prices equal (or lower), when adjusted for inflation.

Whether that correlates well with the competition, that's for us to decide as the consumer. The lack of a Premium trim SR5 is a hole that I would not be surprised to see Toyota fill in a few years, but I'm sure they want to keep profit margins as high as possible for the first few years, as that seems to be the Toyota way.

For me, personally, when I see softex, automatic climate control, and reasonably priced cold weather pkg. on a $31k Camry, I kind of expect to get it on a $44-46k 4Runner. My guess is that once the TRD Off-road and TRD Sport trims increase a few thousand dollars, Toyota will slot in an SR5 Premium trim.

57k is non HV, 60k is HV version.

i thought the FT4WD was only HV model but i guess they changed it to be available on the gas model also

The 2010 price decrease is due to the fact that the standard engine in the base SR-5 was a 4 cylinder.

Yes. We bought our 2007 SR5 for $30,000 OTD. 8 years later I sold it for 50% of the original MSRP.

I can say my TRD Sport Premium has the hood insulation and the engines noise is not excessive at all.

That is good to hear, I have the TRD Sport and it didn't come with one so I am thinking about adding one.
