I don’t want to live with this either, when I bring it in for its first oil change which I am doing at 1000 miles I will leave it there with them. Waiting for the weather to clear up anyways as I keep mine out of the hard salt / snow which we have here in full force at the moment.

Your friend apparently "gets it"! He understands that to change the front diff. is a Win-Win for the dealership, reimbursed from Toyota..... and a happy customer, when you're a service manager that's a A+ on your 'report card'. I was not so lucky dealing with clueless service advisors in our area, instead of being aggravated until resolution, the ECGS bushing was installed. I can't imagine trying to explain a revision to a service advisor that doesn't even know about a 10 yr. old problem! Carry on! God bless your service manager friend.

I really don’t get why dealers try to fight it when the evidence and solution is in front of there faces...they don’t loose money they just piss off customers. I walked in with tsb in hand and it was canceled out of the equation just because it was for 2016-2019 even though it was same symptoms to the T

I've heard before that the labor rate paid by car manufacturers to dealers for warranty work is low compared to the regular rate charged by dealers. That's why dealers don't like doing warranty work.

I heard that to, but that’s the price of business I’m sure the Toyota dealer by me (largest in WNY) isn’t poor & that the mechanics knew how the job was when they applied. Shouldn’t be a hassle to make things right for a customer who dropped $44,000 and was a very easy non hassle sale.

One reason is because every manufacturer sends in auditors to their respective dealerships to review warranty claims. The files that get pulled for secondary review are red flagged, specifically thousand dollar repair differential replacement on a vehicle with less than 1000 miles on it. If the auditor determines that it wasn't the proper fix, they back charge the dealer. So, it's not exactly cut and dry. It has nothing to do with how much the dealer is getting paid by Toyota hourly to do the repair. The dealer wants to fix your car. Good luck though, I hope they take care of it for you.

They seem like they want to make it right but just need Toyota’s guidance apparently, they want the truck for a few days and at that time want to call Toyota and see what they say apparently. I see you are from where I am from small world. I purchased from West herr orchard park.

For sure! I bought mine at Northtown. Big mistake. West Herr is great. They are calling Toyota to cover themselves so they don't get back charged lol. I think you are in good hands!

Time will tell, I had a co worker that went to north town Toyota with his sequoia & the things he told me about the service he received everytime he went was terrible. My family has purchased 5 Toyota’s from west herr since 2019 so I hope they take that into account when I am there also. The general manager seems very nice and understanding, doesn’t hide from the situations.

    Hey guys,
Just got a 22 Trd. So is there a TSB out on the needle bearings. If there is I couldn’t find it. Now I need to keep my ears open. So far I haven’t heard anything different. It’s just under 200 miles.

If you don’t hear it you are probably fine. I read somewhere it affects 30 percent of 4Runners or so.

That’s good to hear. I’ll take it out again and focus my hearing for any bearing noise.

I can feel it on my foot when it’s on the floor flat as well a little bit especially when coasting from 55 Down off the throttle

Well went for a 45-minute drive with the service guy from the dealership today and the noise didn't manifest a single time. Heard it 3 times on the way to the dealership though. Figures.

We got the parts (bushing and oem seal) and the puller and installers from ECGS. Matt at ECGS took our order and expedited it to us.

I have not done this repair yet, I am hoping the dealer makes it right since I only I have 200 miles...but if the second differential isn’t better and I am out if warranty I will be doing that ecgs repair if I find someone competent to do it by me. I am by no means a mechanic.

Just wanted to throw this out there to anyone interested. Mine finally made it to the dealer yesterday. They heard the noise but had to call the Toyota engineers for guidance. The engineers told them to go ahead and follow the old service bulletin and replace the differential. I have to wait for parts to come in but hopefully mine will be resolved in the next few weeks.

Why are we replacing differentials because of this noise if it’s fixed by different style bearings?

I would be the last to know. They seem to have started that back on the older TSB for the 2016-2019 rigs. Even though they were supposed to have fixed the last issue, they clearly didn't and seem to be following the same procedures (although they are replacing them with the same part number this time). Hopefully that just means that some were bad and my next one won't be. Not typically my luck but we shall see

Toyota only seems to want to fix it with their own stuff. No aftermarket items.
The original TSB replaced just the needle bearing assembly. Then the TSB had them replace the whole differential. Then the TSB was expanded to include more model years. Several revisions along the way. I wouldn’t be surprised if they issued another rev to include more recent model years, if customers keep complaining.

Probably easier to make sure there are no loose pieces floating around if the bearing has turned to shrapnel. Not everyone, in fact most, probably wait until it is completely shot before bringing it in.

Basically the really obnoxious noise like everyone else in the thread has described. Was getting worse so hopefully the new differential does the job

My 21 has 14k on it and i def. feel it in the steering. I started to notice it a few thousand miles after the lift. Didnt even want to go down the road of trying to convince a service manager that this issue is real for them to just blame the lift. Getting it replaced with ECGS bushing next week at TE Motorsports Escondido. Apparently this shop does it all the time as they stock the part. $375 is a small price to pay to get rid of the annoyance. Will post results.

2022 SR5 Premium here with 3.5k miles as of yesterday.. no issues so far with it (well other than a neighbor kid smashing my rear quarter windowa week after i bought it )...

What's the issues you are hearing/seeing that are caused by needle bearings etc.. ?

i've used mine in 4HI and 4LO with ATRAC recently (snow and ice storm last week) with no issues.

ive got no issues with doing the fixes myself , but obviously while the vehicle is under warranty I want the dealership to do the repairs etc.. and I will just do the conversion myself post warranty if i still have the 4runner.
