One-at-this-price stripper. Bought new 34 yrs ago, a $13K leftover. Added Detroit TruTrac, 1”rear spring spacer and “pinstripes”… Factory AC kit and roof rack bought at dealer cost at time of purchase, still blows ice cold 32yrs later. 2022 AG ORP all stock.
I am a senior and only have hearing in one ear thanks to my early days (20’s)of working in a lumberyard running a big loud component saws with inadequate earring protection so the JBL option really didn’t come into play for me.
The only extra thing the pro had was the dual climate control that I would like but certainly not worth $5k just for that.
This 4R won’t see much off road action for years as I have my old one to scratch up. This made the KDSS very attractive for fast mountain highway driving, as we live very close to the Sierras.
Basically, I just wanted to get a nice 5th generation for the future while the getting was good.

The side exit still pulls in fumes, at least it does on my 2nd gen.

sounds like a limited would have been perfect for your needs. I'm curious to why this wasn't the one you chose?

side exit has showed to be a lot better against fumes compared to the rear exit on the 5th gen

Yes, but not what I “wanted”….it just isn’t my style.
    Edit:
I will probably give my 2nd gen to my oldest son sometime in the future and then the 5th gen will get dirty. I am lucky to have a zillion acres of BLM mountain/desert trails literally in my backyard. This is a off road neighborhood, everyone has 4wds, ATVs and SxSs.
My Cummins is a terrible wheeler, only good for towing. Waaaay too front end heavy. Get in any kind of soft stuff it just submerges.
The second gen has a TruTrac and is a LOT of fun on “I don’t care” trails, whereas I do care about the 5th gen(for now).

All I know is you can’t get out of the neighborhood (35mph)with my 2nd gen with the window down.

I hate droning exhausts.....but honestly, the one in my '21 Pro doesn't bother me that much as it's only in certain conditions when accelerating. It's fine when cruising. I thought when driving in the mountains that the exhaust was going to ruin the experience but this was not the case. The bigger issue is the transmissions penchant for hunting between 4th and 5th gear. The solution is to put it in manual mode and lock out 5th.

After reading post after post about how terrible the TRD exhaust was, I found myself quite relieved. My 2c

I've never had one person get into my truck and say anything about the exhaust. It's an issue that is pretty overblown on here but I don't think it bothers the majority of 4Runner owners.

Hard to know for sure. I have heard from many owners that switched it to stock. I got use to it.

Found a stock exhaust from ebay. Used the stock muffler and kept the side exit tail pipe

I like that option. What did the muffler cost?

I just went through this process. Brutal drone on the OEM Pro. I tried to buy 3-4 different used non pro mufflers for around $300 shipped with no luck. I just decided to buy new after enough time wasting with used sellers. Part #: 17420-31360 $450 shipped to my door. Local muffler shop $210 to cut 3 bolt flange off and weld to my new Non Pro muffler. $660 later I kept the side exit and have 0 drone. Absolutely love driving it now. Completely changed it for the better.

When I bought my 2023 TRD Pro, I knew it wouldn't fit in garage with the roof rack and the lift dealer put on it. I had them take off roof rack and ordered a gobi stealth rack. Awesome rack.

I did the exact same thing last week based on your experience. Excellent result. Zero drone, and I'm sure it's some sort of placebo effect, but I'd swear the car has a little responsiveness, not as sluggish.
Anway, thank you for the tip.

Yeah some like it some don’t. When I had my AG Pro never wanted to remove it. I probably will be leaving it on when I get my Solar octane.

my previous 4Runner was a limited that thing was smooth and quiet.
just picked up the Pro 2 days ago, boy that exhaust is loud and the whole truck kinda vibrates at certain RPM.

But, I still like it and won't change it a bit

Borla exhaust, Jet MAF sensor, K&N filter, Hayden rapid cool transmission cooler, Hella horns, electric fan, Pedal Commander, Derale power steering cooler,
I followed a TRD pro with exhaust and my Borla sounds better without the drone. I have to hear a little of what my engine is doing. I like the extra power and mileage too. I would give you my Limited exhaust but I don't think I saved it. I don't get exhaust in back as much because tip extends farther. My Corolla needed a cherry bomb so I could hear engine to clutch it. I don't have much feeling in my feet and I need to hear engine some for changing gears at right rpm.

I agree. It's not horrible but pretty annoying after awhile. Quiet is much better! I have one I want to swap out also if anyone wants to trade. I have a 2022 ORP and live near Fort Meade, MD.

Same here, appreciate the part number! Too bad the Toyota dealers don't seem to know anything about it.

Copying this here from the other thread.

My 2 cents on the TRD PRO Exhaust. I just bought a 24 PRO in underground and was really concerned with the exhaust drone. My concern stem from the fact that in my old 2017 PRO in cement (that I regret selling to this day) I added the TRD exhaust and the drone was very bad. I was then now thinking, Am I doing the same mistake and will regret buying the 24? I said fuck it! worst of all I can always change the exhaust to a normal OEM one. Now that I have had the 24 PRO for about 2 weeks, I can tell you that Toyota did something with the sound deadning or insulation on the new PROs that actually reduced quite much the drone from the TRD exhaust when compared to adding it to a non-pro (or to a pre-2020 Pro) 4Runner as an aftermarket accessory. It is not nearly as bad as was in my 2017 PRO. I actually enjoy it now.
