A bit of passing power.....are you paid by Big Portal?

    A bit of passing power.......

Everyone who's gone super charged raves about the power. Almost all driving is on pavement so....that's kinda where you're going to see the benefit.

Virtually all dirt trails can be done with a stock 4runner.

All that said, portals would be very cool.

Regear to 4.88 first(Cost me $1,700), you will be surprised. After I saw Car Care Nut tear a 200 series that blew a motor, I kinda lost confidence in Toyota motors. I wouldn't recommend supercharging your 4.0

Interesting breakdown. I am not considering portals or a supercharger, but if I wanted to make an uber-capable 4Runner for off-road, I suppose portals could be a consideration. My 4Runner is more than capable as-is for my needs. If I really wanted an off-road beast, I would buy something older and less expensive to throw money at and make it off-road optimized. I wouldn't alter my brand-new 4R with leather seats and ceramic coating on the paint—something with some rust that I wouldn't mind scratching up and pushing to its limit. My 4R is my daily driver, and I need to show up looking somewhat put together in my job. The objective is to keep my 4R subtle, yet capable for snow and some Forest Service Roads, and off-grid properties.

After spending some time pressing my foot deeper into the skinny pedal, I have concluded that my 4Runner is just fine as it is. I don't feel any need to regear, and I have driven in enough varied terrain to have a solid benchmark for what I have. If I need more speed, I have two-wheeled machines that will accomplish the task better than a 4Runner with any modification ever could.

Well, if you really want an off-road toy, you'd buy a Jeep with the 35" tire package.

Portals are just a faster way to get ground and larger tire clearance than 99% of the suspension dollars that people throw at their 4Runners. You'd still need improved shocks and springs, just not for ground and larger tire clearance.

Yeah, I get paid by the portal companies. Yuge money in that.

Virtually all dirt roads can be done by a stock anything. The extra ground clearance is just a nice luxury for that one time, crossing through that jungle in Ecuador, that you needed it. Or, if you just like an off-road toy to try your luck on the Rubicon trail.

This one is probably one of the best videos out there explaining this engine and how it was specified and build. Clinical in the way he explains it and shows his knowledge. I have watched this 5 times and it never gets old. The gent deserves a medal IMO.

35s are boring now. Jeep dealers can mount 37s for you without affecting your warranty. 4.88 from factory is just for that purpose. Lil 2 doors can come with 4.88 and 4:1 from factory

Out of curiosity, I got a quote from the nearest (95 miles) authorized Toyota Magnuson dealer/installer. Here is the cost breakdown.

4-6 weeks to order SC, $1000 deposit that goes towards the installation. Up to a week to do the install. Rental car provided at no charge.

    Supercharger $7,395
    Freight $275 for the supercharger
$150 for coolant and extra gaskets that are needed
Tuning $1,000. The tuning is the programing of the software of the supercharger to the vehicle ECU.
    Labor for install $2,000

All out the door price $10,820.

The tuner is provided with the kit you order from Magnuson. They should not be charging you $1000 to do two hours of work.

Yeah, $1000 for the maggy tune is crazy, they are just flashing your ecu. But for Tuning hit up ott! Check out their tune for the maggy supercharger. It's like 10x better then the maggy tune.

What did you have to do to get that power tray to fit where that pump is located? I am about to install the Garmin power switch and it looks like it is in the way.

Check out the YotaWerx Stryker tunes as well. Both are great but they differ in how they tune for low-mid torque vs top end hp. I have the Stryker+ and it is amazing. Crazy acceleration even vs the Magnuson tune; I haven't tried OTT so I can't speak to it but looking at the dyno they give less tq down low but give higher hp numbers up top.

This beauty arrives tomorrow. I had a SC on my 2000 Tacoma and this was the only only problem area I experienced.

    Hi all,

I'm very active on the Tundras.com side of things, and designed a modular pulley system for the Tundra 1900 Magnuson which subsequently I started selling. Someone in Colorado a few months back inquired if they could run my modular pulley on a 5th gen, and with very minor tweaks we were able to get it to work. On my last order to the machine shop I ordered a batch of 4Runner/FJC specific hubs, and today received those and have some in stock.

This is the first customer's 4Runner, running a 2.1" pulley. He said this was a ~1.5psi increase in boost in Colorado (~5000ft elevation).

The setup uses a press on hub and then there are two shear lugs and a 12x bolt pattern of 4-40s that allow the pulley to be swapped out in a few minutes without needing to mess with pressing things on and off. To keep the price low, the 4Runner setup uses the same pulleys as the Tundra, and as you can see above the front two rib locations are blank since the Tundra has an 8-rib serpentine vs the 4Runner's 6-rib. However I did get two prototype 2.0" pulleys which are specific to the 4Runner and have modifications needed to clear the features on the snout, and since they are specific to the 4Runner/FJC they are 6-rib variants (two pictures down). If the prototype 2.0" works out I'll probably end up ordering more. For now there is 1x of the 2.0" prototypes remaining, otherwise I have a bunch of 2.1" pulleys available which do fit the 4Runner right off the bat.

If you want to learn more, or about the whole creation of this pulley setup, there's a long thread on Tundras.com outlining the whole process. I didn't go into this trying to make any money but just wanted a high altitude solution for a Tundra pulley, and then other people wanted it too, and now some 4Runner guys. Here is that thread detailing the beginning to now of Sniv Speed Shop: https://www.tundras.com/threads/sniv-speed-shop-custom-parts-and-design.114871/

If you have any questions let me know, I'll frequent on here or you can email me at snivspeedshop@gmail.com or can purchase a unit at https://www.snivspeedshop.com/. Thanks!

The guy in Colorado was able to pull/reinstall with the blower still bolted down. I think he found a 3 jaw puller to get the stock pulley off, and then said he threw the hub in his BBQ on high for half an hour and it slid right on.
