Does a body mount chop damage or make your 4Runner weaker?

Nah you can still get em off. It's not that bad.

If you need a blow torch to get them off you would just break the stud anyway.

It will be a pain to get the off as they will take more force for a lot of turns. But just clean the threads up after.

 

@djwantke IME red loctite is not as permanent as most claim it to be. But a little heat does go a long way. Even just a heat gun helps quite a bit.

Back to the BMC I do believe that it does make the body mount a little weaker. But not enough to worry about.

At the end of the day almost all modifications we do for improvements off road could be viewed as making the truck weaker in some sense. Or at least exposing weaknesses. Big tires? more likely to break CVs. Steel bumper and winch? More likely to cause frame damage in a simple fender bender. More weight? More stress on all components causing additional wear. Hell I did spindle gussets and was then told the heat from welding the spindles could make them weak and more prone to failure. Which if true, would negate the whole reason for spindle gussets.

Don't overanalyze it too much. Everything is a compromise to some degree. Life is too short to worry about these things.

I doubt very seriously a 4Runners cabin will detach from the frame because of a simple body mount trim and weld job.

1. It's still true that I don't have the heart to uninstall (and then do what with) the spidertrax I paid a premium for to receive all the way up in Canada.
2 . Putting a heat gun near these gorgeous black aluminum spacers makes me anxious

295/70, 285/75, 255/85
in x amount of years, I will play another game of "Name that rubbing noise!"

 

Me, after I installed the spacers and my wife said what the hell is that noise when I turn!?

 

If you out 295's with those spacers you're guna need to do a lot of cutting to make it fit.

I paid $300CAD cash to a skilled fella about my age well known in the local offroad shop world, to do it all at his home shop. He was fast, like <3 hours. I walked over to Cabela's few blocks away, it was an awesome day.

-Body Mount Chop; cut, weld, paint
-Fender mount chop, re-weld, paint
-Fender Liner cut behind wheel
(I cut liner in front of wheel clean off @ top of viper cut)
-Wheel well firewall hammering, painting

Very clean job. He was part of ARC-1 Industries at the time.

Chopping and welding the body mount really doesn't take to much time(if you know what your doing). Id say 2-4hrs But with labor rates sky high expect to pay $400-$800.

I can't speak for Canada. From my understanding Canada is screwed harder than any other countries. Cost of living has gone up more than anywhere else in the world which from my understanding is because the percentage of homes purchased in Canada by private organizations is higher than anywhere else in the world. Which is actually capitalism hard at work.

The graph I posted shows a dramatic uptick in the American money supply when the US government started loaning rampantly to banks at 0 percent interest to fight off a depression when covid hit and keep the economy propped up. The rest of the world printed a lot of money as well. Economics 101 tells us that increased money suplly like that causes inflation. And we just saw the most inflation since the 90's here in the USA.

That money supply was increased by both the trump and biden administrations. It's a global issue. And here in the US it isn't a left or right issue.

It's just politicians wanting good economies so they can stay in office so they sacrifice our money in the long term for a very short term success.
