^this really is true more than we've maybe ever realized. There's a shocking amount of sinister s*** going on with the people in power. The difference between the conspiracy theory and the truth is 6 months these days lol

Funny reading this article posted by a member, keeps it real right at the end talking about how "[no one in the administration is claiming EV's are going to get cheaper for you by 2032, their electricity is being taxed and will continue to be heavily taxed in new clever ways because it's all about collecting money. The plan is only for internal combustion prices to rise by getting taxed up the ying yang (while EV's are for now, on average, are more expensive than internal combustion, but consistently lacking in infrastructure).
And then you can believe our tax dollars are about to be used to eliminate and convert all the damn gas station pumps and underground tanks,]

Revolt by buying a brand new 4Runner right now if you can afford it, before they downsize it with the 4 cylinder turbo engine and 8 speed transmission next year to meet fuel economy requirements. If it's like the new Tacoma, as it is expected to be, I can't stand it. If you buy a new 4Runner now, we all know that it's good for about 15 years or more if you take good care of it. I'm still driving the 2011 FJ Cruiser that I bought 13 years ago! No batteries for me! Good old 1GR-FE 6-cyl for me!

I bet this thread and others like it wouldn't be locked if they were pro narrative. Censorship at even this level - nice.

If even some of this is true, it backs up the dark side of EV's that I keep repeating to climate alarmists:

This is a Tesla model Y battery.
It takes up all of the space under the passenger compartment of the car.

    To manufacture it you need:
--12 tons of rock for Lithium (can be extracted from sea water)
-- 5 tons of cobalt minerals (Most cobalt is made as a byproduct of
the processing of copper and nickel ores. It is the most difficult
material to obtain for a battery and the most expensive.)
    -- 3 tons nickel ore
-- 12 tons of copper ore

You must move 250 tons of soil to obtain:
    -- 26.5 pounds of Lithium
    -- 30 pounds of nickel
    -- 48.5 pounds of manganese
    -- 15 pounds of cobalt

To manufacture the battery also requires:
-- 441 pounds of aluminum, steel and/or plastic
    -- 112 pounds of graphite

The Caterpillar 994A is used for the earthmoving to obtain the essential minerals. It consumes 264 gallons of diesel in 12 hours.

Finally you get a “zero emissions” car.

Presently, the bulk of the necessary minerals for manufacturing the batteries come from China or Africa. Much of the labor for getting the minerals in Africa is done by children! If we buy electric cars, it's China who profits most!

BTW, this 2021 Tesla Model Y OEM battery (the cheapest Tesla battery) is currently for sale on the Internet for $4,999 not including shipping or installation. The battery weighs 1,000 pounds (you can imagine the shipping cost). The cost to replace Tesla batteries is in $US

    Model 3 -- $14,000+ (Car MSRP $38,990)
    Model Y -- $5,000–$5,500 (Car MSRP $47,740)
    Model S -- $13,000–$20,000 (Car MSRP $74,990)
    Model X -- $13,000+ (Car MSRP $79,990)

It takes SEVEN years for an electric car to reach net-zero CO2. The life expectancy of the batteries is 10 years (average). Only in the last three years do you begin to reduce your carbon footprint. Then the batteries have to be replaced and you lose all the gains you made in those three years.

    Let that sink in.

This kind of logical critical thinking is the dirty little truth about electric cars that is disregarded and gets you called a conspiracy theorist.

Well done!!! The 30% with brains get this. The 30% in the middle might one day. The 30% who support evil will not let facts get in the way of their feelings.

The fact that 60% (based on your numbers) still believe there's a real difference between the two main parties is a big part of the problem.

My two cents, which I occasionally drop into a conversation such as this, is that man-made climate change isn't provable.

As I get older I see that lots of former conspiracy theoriesare true. There clearly is an agenda behind the destruction of Americas oil and gas industry. As example: The government control of oil drilling leases and production gets some attention, but not enough. It is part of a master plan to weaken America. The enemies of Freedom are continuously chipping away at our Country by every means they can!
We need ICE for civilian freight moving and all our vast military vehicles from trucks to aircraft.. Can you imagine our military strategic oil reserves depleated-oh, I forgot they have been!

^ Oil&Gas, food, "healthcare," freedom to think, much less speak, right to protect property, you name it. Oh, and nobody really owns "their" property either. As long as you have to pay taxes on it, your property is essentially in a lien. Stop paying taxes and your property is taken by the gov.

The only law involving electric vehicles I would support is ALL energy used to charge them MUST come from wind, solar or nuclear plants. Otherwise it's nothing more than false virtue signaling. Even though a great deal of fossil fuels are needed to produce every part of those energy production methods.

And the batteries and car. See post #291. I reposted that in the 6th gen forum when people were talking about how great a "hybrid" 4Runner would be. Hybrid = all of the disadvatages of both electric and gas!

One-at-this-price stripper. Bought new 34 yrs ago, a $13K leftover. Added Detroit TruTrac, 1”rear spring spacer and “pinstripes”… Factory AC kit and roof rack bought at dealer cost at time of purchase, still blows ice cold 32yrs later. 2022 AG ORP all stock.
We have 3 ICE vehicles, plenty for us to sit on the sidelines and watch how the great EV experiment pans out.

Me too. New 2024 4R TRD OR so I'm all set.

I can't wait for the EPA to have to set up Superfund sites to clean up the mess from discarded burned up batteries (they seem to like to burst into flames), toxic waste sites where companies try to recycle them and sites that try to dispose of them, etc. For now they will just hide the mess and lie about it. Post #291 addresses the mess made when people try to make these things. They also have to be disposed of. Giant worn out windmill blades are piling up in huge stacks because nobody can recycle them profitably or dispose of them properly.

When people write ICE all I think of is Immigration and Customs Enforcement, which is a whole other disaster like EPA.

Fewer and fewer people want a new vehicle with a giant battery. Then those who buy them, including hybrid, will get killed on the trade in or resale later!

This piece on Yapoo News is laughable:

"... the same price decreases that make used EVs affordable make them harder for traditional used car business models to make money on. What’s more, used EVs are more complicated to sell than conventional cars.

One challenge dealers face is that used EV values depend on novel metrics — primarily battery health — that used-car dealers and financers aren’t used to quantifying. That makes it harder to establish their appropriate resale prices, or calculate the risks that financiers take on by lending against a vehicle they might have to repossess.

Another problem is that it takes extra work to combine the $4,000 federal tax credit for used EVs with state and utility incentives into an up-front discount on a vehicle’s purchase price — a step that experts agree makes a big difference for cash-strapped car buyers.

If these barriers aren't resolved, the used EV market could wind up growing slower than its full potential, holding up the EV revolution ..."

So we are subsidizing this crap too! Subsidize it when sold new and then AGAIN when sold used!

Doesn't sound like much of a "revolution" to me unless you mean revolutionary taxation to pay all of the subsidies.

"... the number of used EVs sold in the U.S. grew from 283,000 in 2022 to just under 400,000 in 2023, and are expected to reach nearly 560,000 in 2024."

As people figure out they suck and dump them.

Oh, and it costs more to insure one, especially a new one, because a little fender bender accident can easily total the car due to battery replacement cost. People buying these nightmare battery jobs aren't thinking things through.

Yep, battery = nightmare. Read the thread. I'll ask you 15 years after you buy one. Good luck.

Read what thread? I've already read practically every thread on this forum.

The battery in a hybrid is not as big as the battery in an EV. Toyota has proven that they can be reliable. There are plenty of 200+K mile Priuses out there.

I wouldn't hesitate to buy a plug in hybrid if I needed a fuel efficient vehicle for commuting and occasional traveling.

Age kills as bad as mileage. Bad for the environment to make, bad for the environment to dispose of, more expensive to insure, wears out, low resale value compared to gas, etc. I'll ask you 15 years after you buy one. Good luck.
