Banks will do the sub prime again because there are the people that try to act like they are rich by purchasing a car they can’t really afford. Unfortunately for them they don’t understand that most well off people don’t by the most expensive car.

Yeah the Pro makes no sense you're right about that. I think the biggest seller they'll have will probably be the TRD ORP like TFL got. I think they said they paid $45k for their Taco ORP.

With cloth seats, no BSM, no real options. It's into the 50s for the 4Runner no doubt.

Guess we'll see how they price it, but, they might keep it close to the Taco esp because the body of the 6th gen spy shots do look a little smaller than the current 5th gen. I also think they'll keep it slightly smaller so it doesn't cannibalize LC sales since the 5th gen is almost the same size.

If the top 4Runner crosses into the Landcruiser price range, Toyota will be sabotaging sales of their 4Runners.

I would definitely go for a Landcruiser if this happens.

But the LCs that are priced similar to the fully loaded 4Rs won't be as fancy inside, some might prefer the 4R just to get the fancier interior and amenities.

And don't forget the new Lexus Overtrail that starts under 70k. I see myself going for one of those for the wife in the near future.

They used to differentiate their products well. By making grill hideous but interior quiet and plush they appealed to certain customers. Now the GX550, LC, and new re-designed 4R when it comes out will be too close. There is a lot of ovrlap.

Something has to give -- maybe they make 4R more utilitarian, smaller strictly offroady? I'd be OK with that. So maybe 5th gen pricing isn't really a guide for next gen.

Otherwise I can not explain their pricing either.

    Let's recap this mess.
    • 2024 Lexus GX
    • 2024 Toyota Landcruiser
    • 2025 Toyota 4Runner
And lots of trim models. That's a lot of SUVs to differentiate in price and options.

Landcruiser and GX looking almost exactly the same on the outside except for the front end. Same roof rack. Same window shapes. Same side panel designs. Same trim molding. Same divider line at the top of A-pillar. Same hood lines.

Just like Toyota sold Avalons for many years without sabotaging Lexus LS sales, I see no issues with them selling current line of products. Lexus will always have nicer interior, for people that want and can afford to pay will always go for that.

    It's a mess to the un-initiated.

The LC and GX are brothers. Both share the same body, frame, and drivetrain; but the powertrain differs. LC will be hybrid only from the Grand Highlander while the GX will have a the turbo 6 from the Tundra/Sequoia. Both will have the same full time 4X4 with center lock and rear locker optional. The biggest difference also is that the GX is a lux vehicle just like a BMW... the LC is not, it's a standard Toyota interior, nothing lux about it.

The 6th gen 4R and 4th gen Taco are also brothers. Same body, frame, drivetrain, and will have the same powertrain options. Both have the part time 4X4; I assume the 4R will be the same exact thing with the rear locker offered in the OR and Pro trims.

This is what I keep hoping for. Although, that will make it harder not to buy one.

The funniest things in these threads are second-guessing Toyota's competence in setting prices and banks' ability to make money on loans.

Same here, needs to be smaller and more nimble than our 5th gens. But based on the C&D spy shots, it does indeed looks a little smaller which I like. Our 5th gen drives like a RAM 1500 lol... not complaining, I love that honestly. Also, theoretically, it should be a little lighter because of the turbo 4.

We're not 2nd guessing. We're just speculating for fun, until Toyota gives us some concrete looks.

In my area the people with the nicest new trucks are all renters. I own my house out right but drive Toyotas and a base trim Ford work truck. If someone drove by they could mistake me for the landscaper since I do my own yard work, while the renters are required by landlords to hire landscapers. :D

I would like the GX just for the motor over the hybrid system in the, uh, "Land Cruiser".

I wonder if there can be a Toyota Prado badge kit for the GX...maybe I am just old fashioned but I would rather be seen in a Toyota than a Lexus if I can help it, I live in an okay area but I do go to nearby towns that are a bit more car-jacky for work.

I didn't see anyone saying Toyota doesn't know what they're doing.

I saw (and made) comments about not understanding the pricing of the different models, and the level of market segmentation. Maybe saying it doesn't make sense [to me].

    These are two different things.

My guess, for this to be practical/profitable for Toyota, is that these multiple models share enough in common that there is not an excessive cost associated with having multiple models. So there's less downside to any cannibalization of sales.

"The Japanese car manufacturer forecast it will have its most profitable year on record due to hybrid sales.
Earnings even hit $30.3billion in the fiscal year ending March.
The success comes after concern about Toyota’s refusal to mirror other manufacturers drive to electric vehicles."

They seem to know what they are doing.

I love hybrids. The idea of a hybrid 4R is music to my ears.

Unpopular opinion: I do like the electric humm sounds from hybrids when driving local roads. I hear them all the time here the Rav4 and such.

It's probably going to look similar to the Taco.

I think the Landcruiser looks awesome. :notsure:

If my front bumper weren't plastic, it would have been trashed this past summer when it got ripped off in a mud pit. Instead it popped right back into place with minimal damage.

Imagine getting the last 4Runner V6 off the assembly line. That would be pretty cool.
