TRD Off Road model for towing a lite travel trailer on the road??

Tows perfect with just the brake controller. My camper is only 3k lbs. Zero sway and it's perfectly level. I did have a pro model if that makes any difference.

Op just make sure you get your set up checked out for safety.

@2016Pro -- if the weight distribution hitch was free, would you take it? Do you think it adds anything of value while towing?

 

I actually bought one brought it to the tow shop and they said return it you are fine

Ultimately, fine and good are different than prepared and ready.

 

Jeez, give it a rest. Not every situation necessitates a weight distribution hitch.

 

Towed an Opus OP4, (similiar to rig above) 4200# gross. I have air bags and trailer brake. No weight distribution hitch. Trailer was level, no issues. S4 & S5 are your friends.

Looking forward to getting my little trailer out this spring with the 4Runner, ignore the Ford thing. Livin Lite 6', pops out a single queen bed. ~1500lbs with gear.

 

Nice set up, is that a 16 or 20? I was thinking about a 16 but got scared off of towing with the 4R, after reading this great thread I'm rethinking it all. How much do the WDH or anti sway trash departure angles? Do you use airbags also?

 

This is the Basecamp 20X. I can't really speak for departure angles. I pulled across some fairly steep sided washes and had no problems. Let's be clear, common sense when towing anything is a must. I did not use airbags, I opted for OME medium duty springs on the rear. With the WDH and proper loading, I was able to achieve a level ride height. Had to do all over again, I would probably install airbags as well. Do yourself a favor and get a REDARC trailer brake controller.
