Powerstop reman calipers came in with displaced dust boots on half of the pistons. Easy enough to fix with a pocket screwdriver though:

Bought new hard lines going to the caliper. They were reasonably cheap at the dealer parts counter:

Interested in your thoughts after you install them. I installed a reman Napa caliper and that side is getting pretty hot in stop and go traffic. Not sure if it is sticking or not. Might be worth swapping out to these.

Finally got around to putting the matte black hood scoop (from 4RL) on, it was hard to get this part these past few months, always sold out in matte! The quality of the plastic does not justify the $80 price tag considering OEM is the same cost I believe. The only reason I didn't go with OEM is because it's glossy black, and I have matte-black everything (front/back valance from 4RL and matte pro grille from Yota X).

Shes a little dirty so you can really see the bug gut oils on the matte black plastics. I wonder if the glossy black are better at avoiding these stains. It cleans up nice with some soap and a micro fiber though.

Now, does anyone know where to get matte black door handles? :D

Nope, same problem. I've considered inserting a small hacksaw blade or something and just sawing the tab off and see if it fits flush, haha. It doesn't bother me too much though to just leave it.

How'd it go, did you get them installed?

I have a 2023 ORP and with that harness you don't need to use the DRL fuse tap at all to power the DRL. Since Toyota switched to all LED lights in newer and higher trim packages, with the proper harness the lights get everything they need without additional fuse tap power.

The DRL on the Morimoto will simply light up if you just set DRL on the factory light stick (and stays on in all the other light modes). You might want to make sure you have DRL turned on in the INfotainment system settings too if you dont see it working (this is on by default).

I actually don't know if you get the same startup sequence or not without it connected, but the potential risk/annoyances wasn't worth it to me. EFI2 receives power at a certain interval from the 4runner computer when the engine is off to run some diagnostics I believe so if you connect there in a newer 5th gen model your lights will come on at random all throughout the day/night. If you still want to run the DRL fuse tap I would suggest going in the dash fuse box and doing ACC or IGN2 to avoid potential issues. Personally, I wanted to avoid fuse-tapping EFI2 or INJ if I could, while it is recommended in some installation manuals and most people don't have issues, if one of these parts fail in a spectacular way or something just gets lose/shorted out you can risk the engine seizing while you are driving, or the vehicle wont start. For all my other third party components I have another fuse box I installed that connects directly to the battery with an 80A relay switch and is controlled seperately by a panel mounted inside (https://yotaxpedition.com/products/8-button-auxiliary-power-kit-bracket-4runner)

My biggest complaint throughout the entire Morimoto headlight research process was that they have done a poor job of updaing their instructions for the latest 5th gen models with higher trim, leaving people confused. For example, yours may have came with a user manual that says EFI2 but if you check on their website, in small, easily missable text at the bottom of the page they say not to use EFI2 in the later years. And they still have the correct harness labeled in a confusing way that makes people think its only for the Limited or Pro, but you need it for the ORP too.

I still ran the DRL fuse tap wire to the headlights and just zip tied them near the fuse box and capped the ends so they dont corrode in case I found a use for it later or wanted to hook it up, but it's just sitting there disconnected right now.

The only caveat I've found so far is that DRL wont light up if your parking brake is engaged, which is basically a non-issue for me. Weirdly enough I've noticed one time where after disengaging the parking brake the DRL never came on, but after restarting the car I couldn't reproduce it. Once I disengage the parking brake after starting the vehicle the DRL come on. If you run the DRL fuse tap to something that gets power when the car starts (EFI2/IGN2/INJ/etc) then you won't have this issue, but you also won't be able to turn it off using the factory stick. Both seem like non-issues for most.

You traded best calipers for China painted ones? Paint those.I don't want to use aftermarket for traction control. They have kits you can paint with. I'm going to Dot 5-6 next time. I got 4 jars and hose to gravity bleed or MightyVac tool. Gravity is free and easy. I love the brake kits, but those Toyota calipers are built and designed for traction control and will last as long as the truck.

By the way, this was not the greatest idea since the plates/pins cannot be removed without cutting the cable ties; gonna put helicoils in the crossbars instead.

I've been running the same Powerstop P/N reman calipers as a "big brake" upgrade on my Tacoma for over two years with no issues. Works well after being dragged through water, mud, and sand. MTS traction management works as it should in the rocks.

Finally installed my Sherpa rack. Love this thing, very well designed.

Installed some auxiliary BD lights. Making/organizing the wiring harness was a pain in the ass, but worth it in the end.

Haha yeah the G2 is a loaner for a day or two; the shop had a stock mix-up with the Wildpeaks.

Might be a little premature but I think my 50-60mph steering wheel wobble went away too! Now pardon me while I look for a stock 4r to park beside.

    2012 4Runner Trail
buzzed off some undercarriage rust with a wire wheel today. ran it through the car wash and then applied some chassis paint underneath. im happy with the results. also swapped out my hella yellow fogs for auxito amber fogs so the fogs match the drl's and the light bar.

I mean once you've cleaned up the rear frame rail, how can you not dig the no rear bumper look on the 5th gen  I'm assuming it is not legal, even though I swear I see 1st gens I believe, running no rear bumper. Those 1st, and early 2nd gens are wicked

Heck of a day, nicely done! Amber color is rad.
Those areas on the chassis I'm assuming probably had dried out satisfactory from the wash already

Question- Are Tesla drivers the new assholes of the road (AOTR) overtaking BMW drivers? Discuss.

Tesla drivers were always the assholes of the road. We just took time to realize it.
It infuriates me when I see a smug imbecile in his generator with a 500 inch screen cruising alongside. Because it's only a matter of time before he pulls a Tesla douchy maneuver.
