I think XL would be fine - it's between P/SL and C from what I recall? I have P/SL because I don't hit tons of trails and the ones I do end up being light (no XL or C available in mine). If I were hardcore I'd go E.

I think it's funny to sell any "all terrain" or "mud terrain" tire that "isn't intended for offroading" but apparently peeps will buy anything.

There are plenty of examples of these...

Meanwhile toyo has a tire 5 lbs lighter than the mickey thompson and their web banner reads
Durability in the Shape of a Tire

I'm only familiar with passenger tire specs until today. The LT load letters seem useless in practice, except people referencing their E load pressures. We already indirectly estimate strength from the load number. E load'rs have the highest number already.

Load numbers are based on highest rated pressure. E load rated tires typically have much high max pressures than C rated (eg 80 vs 50 psi).

Is this real? Specification derating for passenger tires? Why do C tires spec out with lower load index numbers than the dunlops? I am at my 24h limit of understanding.

Want to be more conflicted? Limited trims come with 107 load rated tires stock while a big deal is made out of KO2 Cs being 112 vs. stock 113 rating on other trims.

That's completely normal o_O and toyota does it on their cars when they upsize the wheels, somehow mysteriously the stiffer sidewalls of the lower profile tires xyz the :p

Looks to be a great tire for the 4R.

People aren't running them because they don't look cool, aren't marketed widely, and tires are expensive. My next set of tires will be 255/85R17 Baja Boss AT's or Kenda Klever 35-10.5R17's because they're the only tire in that size and I'm drawn towards AT/RT pizza cutters, marketing be damned.

I found that my E-Rated Mastercraft Courser CXT's in 255/85R16 rode OK on a stock Tacoma with TRD OR suspension. I don't have any experience with popping tires in either SL or E ratings, and don't personally know anyone who has, but that's my experience and I'm out east where the wheeling is different. IMO, the E rating is the right path, but that's up to you. I can tell you for sure, your desired air pressures are well within what either SL or E rated tires can handle.

I just went Ko2 265c also, 3 days in the wet, rainy, twisty CO mountain roads and they stick like glue. Zero slipping or spinning on pavement, perfect traction in the passes climbing, and so glad I've got the extra sidewall protection! Quiet, smooth, I love em.
