What have you done to your 5th Gen 4Runner today?

Just did 1000 miles in 4 days to hit Octoberfest (I know, its In September, in Saxonburg PA).
Two years in a row, I guess it may become a trend.

Really easy!!! Was less than $20 on Amazon. I was worried it would delete my address book, but it didn't.

Just ordered one, i have no delusions of it replacing waze, but better than being 4years out of date.

 

You'd be surprised what a SS braided hose will do to other materials chafing against it. Seen to much on A/C's.

 

Just ordered for my 2018. Didn't say what the cut off year was, mine is from 01-May-2017 so if it's good to 2022 I'm way ahead even if I am trading when 2025's come out unless I find another vehicle I like better

 

Sadly, Toyota maps mostly suck.

I needed to go to the Japanese embassy in Los Angeles.

Starting in San Diego County, it told me to take a freeway that was going to Long Beach. I stopped and discovered it was going to send me blocks away from the ocean. Nowhere near the embassy.

As we got closer to the embassy using Google maps on a phone, we decided to plug the embassy address and again and it wanted to take us about 10 miles Northwest of the embassy.

My 2023 (my map is dated 09-22) had the wrong address for a business that moved in 2015. I only use the map now for traffic alerts on the big freeways. Otherwise, I am using the Android Auto interface.

The time I contacted Toyota about its maps being incorrect, it was more convoluted and a complete waste of time. They should reward people who notify them of corrections with a free update, these people would not even take my complaint. I was passed around and then told they wouldn't even take the address because there was no way for them to fix it.

 

Yesterday coming home dinner rolled over 63k.Will be 5yrs old 20-Dec-23 & working from home since 30-Aug-23 ( at least till Mar-24 quarantined retention package, I will actually know in Dec. if they will let me continue remote) HQ moving to KMCI & I'm not.

 

I agree, i tried using it for navigation from Kansas to Mississippi... Wanted me to go from city to city adding almost 6 hours to the trip, instead of cutting through the Ozarks in a more direct but non- interstate route. Completely useless.

 

My 2005 Sienna ate tires like Krispy Kreme donuts.

I have bought Defenders for four of my previous cars. Costco was a great place to get them. The guy that bought my Nissan Note said he just replaced them around 77k miles. They still had tread left, they were just getting old at 6 years. They are a harder tire, they're a little noisier and rougher than, say, Continental Pro Contacts or whatever those are called.

The thing I like about Costco is their warranty service. I had a road damage incident with one of my four Defender XTs. Michelin had changed the tread pattern. Costco offered me four new tires for $200 plus tax and tire disposal fees. I think the originals had like 45k on them. The Sienna was eating through them anyway they weren't going to last to their 80,000 mile warranty.

 

Got bored with the OEM tails and wanted to match the front, so installed Morimoto XB Tail Lights (gen 2)

 

Had the sunroof tinted

 

I thought they were tinted from Mfg.? I never like sun roofs. Looks like when I trade I'll have to get one if I want another TRD OR pkg, now they're only offering Premium W/TRD OR & I believe that's standard. My 93 Mustang GT had one, not tinted & no interior cover, I hate the sun blasting in on me.

 

Rock sliders and all but the engine skid plate showed up, which is scheduled to be here tomorrow. Figured I'd wait to install the skids until I had them all and install the sliders today.

Opened the rock sliders and the bolts and washers are not there. Guess those will go on another day.

 

I do not like sunroofs. More crap to fail and less steel between me and the outside world.

Maybe pre-plandemic, there would be a way to order a variation...

 

I know this much: next vehicle I get (regardless of make/model) I'm not getting a sun/moonroof. I enjoy having them. But freaking God they are a PITA if you have to repair them (i.e. have glass replaced like I did). They are nice on spring or fall days (not too cold/holt). But I'm def getting mine retinted along rest of windows prob next year after tax season (hello taxes, good bye taxes).

Update. When I tried to pretension the winch rope the rope slipped right out of the anchor lug. While trying to figure out how to reattach the rope I went through the car wash and the
Control box started making noise without me even touching the controller so disconnected it from the battery. After procrastinating and running out of ideas for the rope I finally called Ironman and they sent another one with a better anchor point. After reconnecting to power I went to spool up the new rope the winch wouldn't work. No clicking, no noises. Nada. I've had this installed for several months, never been able to use it and now I have to remove the entire bumper to work on the winch. This was my first experience with a winch and probably my last. Thus far it's been a giant waste of time and money.

Almost every aspect of this build has been trying my patience.

 

Off to a park next to the river, find a picnic table for my early birthday BBQ. Plus my mom made me carrot cake

 

The red rings finally came in and they put them on Friday. They’re interchangeable with the black rings that were on there. (I didn’t bother washing the truck since it may rain this week again.)

 

They’re no bueno in the snow. I went one winter with them before going to defenders. If I could do it all over again, I’d make the change right away and get more money for the stockers.

 

That looks pretty sweet.

 

Apparently my impatience level needs to be recalibrated to a more reasonable setting. Didn't feel like waiting for RCI to send the bolt package so I went out to Home Depot and picked up the necessary hardware to install the sliders. I'll still need the bolts for the step plates but I can wait for those.
