You don't need that steel cable. Just wrap the chain slack around the crossbar and put the lock through the chain links like this:

Installed wire mesh in the grille to protect the A/C condenser, radiator and everything else behind the grille...

Something I've learned to do for all my vehicles, being as I drive mainly gravel/dirt roads and having had a couple radiators punctured by gravel, thrown up by oncoming vehicles, going through the grille. Plus at certain times of the year we have swarms of grasshoppers, moths, and other insects that can quickly plug up a radiator. The wire mesh is strong enough to withstand hits from rocks, "filters" the bugs, and yet allows plenty of air to get through. It is powder-coated black so unless you look closely you can't really see it behind the grille. Here's what the grille on my F150 looks like after a swarm of bugs; the mesh has done it's job:

Here's a shot of the grille of the 4Runner after installation of the mesh. I've got some white plastic stuffed behind the grille just so the mesh shows up on camera:

Removed a stripped bolt (hallelujah) from my cat guard and greased my slip yokes. I was very close to drilling too far sideways with my extractor.

Let the mods begin. Since only having this a week.. I've installed an ARB 3in coil/strut lift, TRD front skid plate, new BFG K02's, WeatherTeck floor mats and of course the all important rear Gobi ladder. 1f601_3570199f52981ec70448eaa52de32a1fe8d4d963.png

@Yamahamer that grille mesh is so smart, copying this idear. Where you buy yours and does it come powder coated, thanks

BFG KO2 is still my fav trail and do it all tire. Even with Load C I have lot of confidence abusing them.

How ever I wasn't a fan of OME Nitro shocks. For sure they are strong for rough roads / trails, hard cornering and little jumps. But comfort wasn't to my taste. Also I see that you have front mud flaps but keep and eye on rear shocks. If you do lot of gravel road driving the shock body paint get sand(rock) blasted. I had front mud flaps but my paint was gone.

Yamahamer nice job! Did you have to remove the grills and what type of mesh are you using? I did mine with the mesh on top of the grill with Velcro but does not look as nice as yours.

I bought my gutter guards at Home Depot. $2.41 each, pre covid. Needed 2 of them. Bottom portion didn't need to be altered at all, top portion was a cut-to-fit. Held in with zip ties. Came in black.

As the Stoney Ranger stated above, you can get them at Home Depot. They do come powdercoated. Below is the Home Depot info. It is not necessary to remove the grille - remove the cover over the top of the radiator and you can easily reach in and work on the back of the grille. That cover removes by pushing down on the center of each plastic pin holding it in place, then just pulling up on the whole pin. I used black zip ties to hold the mesh in place - unless you look really close you can't even see them. There is a bend on the one side of the mesh but it is easy to straighten out using a hammer and a block of wood. Cheap protection for all that expensive gear behind the grille.

Not what I had planned but for these things coming into my life at the prices they did I couldn't resist. May change it up a bit down the road but am really happy with the look currently ...

Added (prices included shipping, which was ridiculous on the two shipped items)
170.22 for the upper grill straight from toyota
127.47 for the used nameplate on ebay
80 for the pro valence on offerup

for a grand total of 377.69 for all oem pieces and a much improved look

This also gave me the opportunity to remove the trd skidplate and clean the threads, add anti-seize and put it all back together feeling better that there's less chance for issues there in the future now.

Had Metal Tech powered steel rock sliders and a set of 3 CBI steel skid plates installed on my Limited, also had the factory roof rails taken off and replaced by a Toyota kit to fill the screw holes. The 4x4 shop had never installed a set of the Metal Tech sliders previously (they make the only ones I've seen to fit the Limited without any trimming and with XReas in place) and were very impressed with their quality. Also had the differential fluid changed.

One of the reasons I liked this system is because you can use stock paper filter, which I did with the WIX equivalent. It also muffles the sound some so it's not there until you really want it. I could run a dry filter replacement if I wanted to.

Originally the system came with TRD's oiled filter but I'm not a fan of oiled filters.

thanks! i'm not going to even go into the whole oily filter good or bad debate. cleaning one is enough of a PITA for me to not want one. i've already lived that life.

Looks great! Any thoughts good or bad on the Agency 6 shackle? I've been thinking about getting that same one. Thanks.

I obviously haven't used it but it seems to be well built and pretty beefy. I really like it.

What did you use? Is that a bolt? What size and how did you attach it? Was looking to do the same with a Garmin mini 2 as I have one installed for the front. Thanks!

Little dumb but gonna share anyways.

Long story short, Looks like new 4Runner factory Headunit not helping for high quality audio.

I was thinking to upgrade my music for high quality source and planning to get HiRes streaming service. I was about to order new gold plated 3.5mm cable for my phone's Samsung USB to 3.5mm DAC cable (support 24bit 384KHz). (I think Apple only support 16bit audio 48Khz). Just in time realize new 4Runners no more have 3.5mm aux jack. As far as I know bluetooth is not capable of producing high quality audio.

Here's a generic pic from internet to show what I mean..

    upload_2023-4-25_11-19-45.jpg

    Edit-
For anyone checking 4runner bluetooth it only supports 16bit AAC. LDAC is disabled.

Awesome! Thank you! I am making a trip to Yosemite and Indian Valley for some off roading and will see how it performs.

I did this as well.. used black zip ties in between the grooves.. blends in really good.. as for the top section I did a cardboard cut out and cut according to the shape. made some holes to feed the wires for the raptor lights..
