Metal oil filter housing

Thanks for that info. We live in a rural area and take our trash to a drop of area. So taking oil there is not an inconvenience. But good info to know.

 

the Fumoto valves are extremely reliable. The dealer service department, not so much.

 

Yes, just push down on the tube and compress the spring, turn in either direction until the tabs to clear. Pops right out. No need to bend anything.
Metal housing feels a lot smoother screwing on and off the engine too.

 

I don't know if I dare let the dealership change my oil now that I have a Fumoto valve. In fact, when I wasted my time taking my runner in for its free 5k service, I told them I had already changed the oil and installed the valve, all they could focus on was how I may be voiding my warranty.

 

Exactly. I'd be concerned that the teenage 'oil tech' would remove that newfangled drain gizmo instead of just turning the handle to drain the oil...at least when I take mine to a mechanic, I can explain that it has a different setup. You never get to speak with the person who works on your vehicle at the dealership.

How do you void the warranty by changing the oil more often? Or were they saying you were voiding the warranty by not having them change the oil?

 

All depends on the skills of the Oil Change Tech. Best to avoid express dealership oil change services before and working hours.

My first oil change was done by a young tech.... left all the undercarriage and skid plate covered with oil. Whilst trying to cut corner.

Didn't realize until i got home and my garage floor was covered with oil spots.

 

because I installed the valve. Basically, they are saying if I lose the oil because of the valve, I have no warranty recourse. I didn't waste my time discussing it with them. And remember, while under Toyota Care oil changes are every 10k, even though the vehicle has 5000 things reminding you to change it every 5k, so they wouldn't have change it unless I payed them anyways.

Our local dealership was taken over by a corporation a few years ago, and I hear lots of complaining about them now.
