Falken Wildpeak A/T3 275/70 R17 on Stock 4Runner ORP

275-70-17 stock ORP rims, speedo is on the money! ~ .5 mph. If you get a citation for 2-3 mph over, the cop must be fishin'!

 

Yes, I too have a slight bit of oscillation at highway speeds. It doesn't happen every time though, and its minor, but happens around 63 mph.

 

Considered tire pressure? I had a similar shimmy periodically at about 60mph. Adjusted tire pressure to 42psi and all is well. 265/70-17 KO2s, however, not Wildpeaks.

 

I read some threads about tire pressure. When I had them put on I asked for 38 psi. I'll take a shot at increasing the tire pressure. Thanks!

 

Those 275s look really good! That settles it for me: I'm going for some 275/70r17 General Grabber ATXs on my ORP.

 

Jut got a set of stock sized ATX's put on mine last week, I'm very happy with them. Even in stock size, they look so much bigger than the stock Bridgestones. I stuck with the "P" rated because the only other choice was E, and I wanted a lighter tire. We had some snow last week, and I got to play around a bit. Was happy with the performance. They also ride very nice.

 

Good news. Increasing the tire pressure to 40psi eliminated the slight shimmy. Had to take a 90 minute highway drive yesterday and averaged 20.0 mpg. Very pleased with that. I had prepared myself for far worse gas milage. Coming from a series of sports cars, I don't mind the stiffer ride at all.

 

That must have been downhill...

I can't imagine what you could be doing that differently. I don't think I even got 20 out of my stock tires.

Wait, was this at like 55 MPH? That probably is a lot different than 75-80 MPH.

 

I was quite surprised. I had averaged 18.4 mpg with the stock tires (around the town and mixed highway driving). After the Wildpeak switch that average dropped to 17.5.
After refueling, and then pumping up the tires to 40 psi and driving for about 90 minutes at a mix of 74mph, then 65mph, and some at 62mph and then back again after a stop at the terminal, it averaged 20.0mpg after the refill. The only thing I can figure is that it was the tire pressure, and cruise control .

 

Tire pressure help my mileage as well. From 36psi to 42psi, I went from about 16mpg to a little over 18mpg on aftermarket tires.

Did you have to remove mudflaps or any trimming? I’m looking these same tires but with a 2”/1.5” lift.

 

I just put these 275’s on about a week ago. No rubbing anywhere and I’m totally stock. They are 10 ply and definitely ride firmer than the stock Bridgestones.

 

What air pressure are you guys running, with 275/70/17 Falken Wildpeak's for the street. what do you air down to for off-road??

 

I have 38lbs. in our 275's, the difference is we have Coopers instead of the Falkens, everyday driven to work by my wife. The ride is firm, but not in a bad way. When the time arises, going to expieriment with the pressure, I have not ruled out going down to 28-30lbs for the trails.

 

I’m running 35 psi cold. Only have had them for two days and only about 50 miles.

 

I’m running 35 psi also, I run them on my Silverado also, but run 40 psi on them.. when going on long interstate trips i run them up to 45 psi. Max is 51 psi for mine.

 

According to the tire and vehicle manufacturers and engineers, LT rated tires should be run at 40 PSI on the 4Runner. Do what you'd like of course. I run 40 PSI front and 38-39 rear.. cold of course.

Hi everyone, new owner here ('21 Venture) and thinking of putting these or the BFG TA KO2 on. Curious how the extra weight vs. stock tires has impacted the acceleration and MPG. Much difference or barely noticeable? Thanks in advance!

 

Here's my mpg experience with BFG KO2 285/70R17. I don't feel any difference with acceleration though.

Remember that the MPG on the 4Runner is going to be wrong as it is expecting the tires to be 100% true to size. With a larger sized tire it is not going to know true miles unless recalibrated...Best to do the math at the pump.

Well it looks like for the 285s the speedo is dead on, so maybe the 265s will show wrong...what do I know I don't even own one right now...

Any rubbing on the 275/70/r17 on an off road with KDSS?
I just got '21 TRD OR and I don't want to do any mods for it other than tires for now

 

They should clear the same as a non-KDSS 4Runner.

 

I bought Cooper AT3 LT, last Friday. Went directly to the mountains and aired down to 16-18 psi and ran almost 25 miles for 2 days. No rubbing whatsoever on my 2021 with KDSS. No rubbing on road, no running Offroad in the rocks. Granted slow speed, I’m pretty easy on my 4RUNNER.
