Legally, the warranty can be void on things affected specifically by modifications but it’s not all-or-nothing.

They can’t (not to say a dealer won’t necessarily try) claim a lift affected the transmission without evidence but if your CV axles go out, that’s more dicey as their angles in operation would have changed.

I imagine it would be difficult to get such a thing signed 8 months after purchasing. I'm certain you and Ice Bear are technically correct but I'd sooner avoid any legal wrangling. I read a long post on this by someone here who tried. He sounded quite wealthy and (if memory serves) he had a good friend who was also an attorney his company had on retainer. The gist was you can fight Toyota Corporate's attorneys in court if you want to and you may even win. If you have a truckload of money and time you don't mind burning on principle. I prefer to spend my precious free time irritating trout.

I hope it doesn't sound like I'm trying to be a jerk. Not my intention at all and I appreciate your replies.

i agree you have to choose your battles and no, i didnt get the jerk inpression.

not sure if this is correct but if anyone knows does the TRD pro suspension add a littlw lift, like 1-1.5”? If yes is the answer then you can lift your vehicle, if you want, to within those limits and be fine bc they cant say your aftermarket 1” lift did more damage than their factory 1” lift. Now if youre doing a zero lift and upgrading the front shock, Toyota cant argue anything, but Im sure they will try.

Replacing the standard ORP suspension with the Fox Pro suspension netted me about 1” up front and 1/2” in the back. Measurements from center of hub are 20 7/8” up front and 22.5” in the rear.

My front measurements were below 20 prior, if memory serves me correct they were 19 3/4” and 19 7/8”.

I personally would not be concerned adding a mild lift of up to 1.5” whether it be a factory solution or aftermarket. Many 4Runners come from the dealer with lifts already installed.

I have analyzed suspension options, as many do, and read for months. I happened to find a brand new set of Fox take offs and decided to try that route. I am pleased for the most part. The front coil overs are a bit stiffer. The rears on the other hand, may be a tad softer. Perhaps it’s the extra travel in this setup that makes it seem this way. Or maybe it is a tad softer.

The problem with suspension is it’s subjective to personal taste. I’m really not sure if a 5100 setup would be too harsh for my liking, but I’ve read some folks think so.

If I take off the Fox setup I’ll likely be moving over to Dobinsons IMS with 1.5” lift up front and the springs that provide up to .5” in the rear.

My buddy’s RAM has a highway mode that lowers (dynamic air suspension) the frame/body and drops an air dam to improve highway handling. It got me thinking numerous times about “what if…”

My T4R’s handling improved after I upgraded just springs…stiffening up the suspension just enough. I loved not needing to swap out shocks as the factory Fox shocks my rig came with are actually well designed…

TRD Pro 4Runner Front shocks have 7 bypass zones (4 compression, 3 rebound); rear shocks have 11 bypass zones (7 compression, 4 rebound) and 2-inch piggyback reservoirs plus a unique TRD roost shield that offers additional protection for the inverted shock design in the rear.” -
    ) and

After numerous trips across the Central Valley (an area known for occasional-brutal crosswinds) I can honestly say that just simply reducing ‘bounce’ with slightly stiffer (K-factor) springs noticeably reduced wandering tendencies. This is a brick of a vehicle and unless you improve aerodynamics under the vehicle you’ll never reduce poor handling due to wind effects to that of a sedan-sized vehicle.

Good to know! I'm glad you've got your setup down. I don't have any experience with the Pro's Fox suspension but I hear a lot of good things.
I went pretty stiff with springs when I switched to the IMS setup and I like it quite a bit

Our family sedan is a late production model Grand Marquis that I outfitted with KYB gas adjusts and rear CVPI sway bar. A little rougher riding with the well damped shocks but now handles like a big mustang, on highways 9,17 and 35 (those who live near the Bay Area would know it) on the twisty parts I have no problem keeping up with far smaller, sportier cars.

I love my trd fox suspension. It was a huge improvement over stock(sr5) and over my eibach stage 1. Just got to search for take offs. I got mine for $400

That's a crazy deal, that means someone bought a TRD Pro and immediately swapped the shocks and struts out?
