What have you done to your 5th Gen 4Runner today?

Noticed a bit of rust on my hitch receiver already, so took the dremel to it and hit it with some rustoleum.

 

Game changer. Have had driver's seat on for a couple years. Just did passenger seat this week.

 

Got my first one on the 25 min drive home, that one hurt. 3 more in the last year and a half, all of which happened in the city. Have had 1 filled, the others are small enough I'm not too worried at least.

Added the Morimoto led 3rd brake light for shits and giggles... i like it

Returned my second set of the Morimoto XB LF700 tail lights. The first set accumulated a water puddle and condensation within 4 months. The second set also accumulated water and condensation within 3 weeks. It looked really bad. Exchanged the LF700's for a set of Rogue Tail Lights from 4Runner Lifestyle. If all else fails I'll tint the stock tail lights. I'm probably going to avoid morimoto for a while.

 

try some POR 13 That stuff is incredibly hard and stops rust dead in its tracks.

 

Drove the 2011 to Christmas Church Program, then to our daughter's house for dinner

 

Drove it to Christmas Eve service last night and took the fam to dinner in it afterwards.

 

Fool's errand. Tail lights, like most components on the vehicle with air volume inside, have breathers.

 

I’n also considering Bilstein 4600s for shocks. So many folks complain about the stiffness of the 5100s.
Please let us know the comfort and performance results of the 4600s.

 

I had 5100's on my 2013, never noticed any stiffness at all but definitely firmer than the factory mush feel. On my 2023 I have 5160's and 6112's, again no stiffness that I can tell.

 

That combo looks impeccable. What brand of wheels are those and do you have the specs on them?

From what I could tell, they’re supposed to be the same as the 5100’s except the 4600’s are non-adjustable and for stock height only.

The mystery for me is whether to do only the fronts or do all four but I will see how it drives after the fronts go on first and I’ll make a decision later.

A well-to-do guy in Minot, ND who usually gets a new vehicle and trades it back in to the same multi-line car/truck dealership every year, bought it (including the optional console safe!) for his wife who used it for 9 months and traded it in for something else. That is the story I got from the sales manager at that same dealership when I asked that same question. The Carfax supports that story. Apparently, that guy is a very popular customer at that dealership.

Yes, that is them, just not from Amazon. Direct from Curcuit off road. Specs are exactly the same. 21 lbs, offset 10mm.

Doing the 4Runner and Tacoma on Saturday.

 

Drove to step son's for annual Xmas celebration & rolled over 6k mi.

 

Drove up to our place in the mountains for Christmas and rolled over 400 miles, getting close to 500 miles.

 

Drove to work and crossed over a railroad track. Best I got for Christmas Day.

 

I have a dumb newbie question. 23 T4R stock, the trailer lights plug seem difficult to access. Up and under the bumper by the spare, is this correct?

 

Yes that’s where it’s at from the factory.
