    Interesting. I’m assuming the first batch of people getting engine replacements will get new ones then everyone else will get remans. How much of the old engines are reused?

    Why do you think this is good? Magnesium is highly reactive, just like with ZDDP there could be 'too much'.

    Not too much if real chemists do it, not backyard chemists. HPL is a reputable company. Not high magnesium is just for longer OCI.

    We recycle everything. Bolts, timing gears, cranks, heads, blocks, cams etc. The percentage depends on that particular part's fallout. Some parts are not repairable or reusable. Some OE's do not allow re use or repair of certain parts…. So that's a complicated thing to answer. But generally speaking if we receive 100 core engines we will be able to manufacture 70-80 engines out of majoritively remanned parts.
    Toyota is still in the process of getting all of their customers taken care of. I’d assume they’ve already made changes in their facilities to ensure new engines are no longer suffering the same fate. But unfortunately them continuing production and getting all these engines replaced is likely putting them over capacity. So they’re looking at different companies to help them out. Which is kind of an industry standard to be frank.

    So an owner could potentially get a replacement engine that has more mileage on its parts than the one they took out. Awesome.

    I suppose. But there's an argument to make that our machining and testing protocols are IATF certified and actually go above what most manufacturers require. There's also an argument to be made for work hardening materials; Meaning a crankshaft reground for a larger bearing may actually be stronger than the original crankshaft machined for the OE bearing.

    I think a lot of people assume remanufacturing is this janky process in someone's garage... It's most certainly not. It's a multi billion dollar industry employing millions of American workers. Certified by outside organizations and meeting the same or better standards than most OE's. This is why these companies are trusted and have been contracted by OE manufacturers for the last 80 years.

    One-at-this-price stripper. Bought new 34 yrs ago, a $13K leftover. Added Detroit TruTrac, 1”rear spring spacer and “pinstripes”… Factory AC kit and roof rack bought at dealer cost at time of purchase, still blows ice cold 32yrs later. 2022 AG ORP all stock.
    I wouldn’t touch a new Toyota turbo engine for at least 3-5 yrs. Until I get at least a view of long term durability, I’ll stick with the known quality of the 5th gen. I keep good vehicles a long time.

    Do you have a GX now?
    What do you think about Valvolines restore and protect oil? I just got some for my Tacoma and change it this weekend. I’ll see if it quiets the engine down like many claim it does.

    Not yet. I'm looking for a very particular one so dealer is on the hunt. It will take some time but I'm not in a hurry. This GX is going to be with me for a long long time so I make sure I get exactly the one I want.
    Isn't the Valvoline Restore and Protect for sludged up motors? Did you neglect your Tacoma? If not then don't worry about it

    Run Valvoline R&P, but I heard it takes 4 oil changes to make a difference. Or run HPL Premium Plus once. Or run their engine cleaner with their oil

    At 3x the cost of Pennzoil & changing at same intervals! No way worth that much more $$ & I ain't cheap either. But then again I trade vehicles between 70-85k miles.
