waaaay too many people around there who just love having a wank over instagram-ready builds and the 42 daily "joined the club" posts than any real conversation. Nobody wants to hear anything negative no matter how bad the idea is.

@Borracho Loco does have a point. If you just look at the 5th gen forum, the most active forum on 4runners.com, there's just under 260,000 posts since 2014. That is an average of 2,166 posts per month. I don't see a total number of members posted, but I have to believe that if all the contributors to the 5th gen forum averaged less than 4 posts per month (as has the person asking if there is a more active 4Runner forum) this forum would have fizzled years ago. If you want a more active forum, be active.

Sure there's plenty of redundant questions posted, but no one has to open a thread if they so choose not to.

I for one appreciate the ability to read and contribute in a community without having to negotiate incessant advertising popups. And more importantly where political discussions are not allowed.

I spend some time on TacomaWorld, but nowhere near as much time as here. The forum there I frequent, 1st Gen Tacomas, has pretty much become a daily number of requests about how to fix things on a truck that is now 20-27 years old, so it's understandable...

    Oooh look, another mod.....
I was on TacomaWorld too, and there are threads on that site that I wish we had here, like:

    1) NFL Trash Talkers thread.
    2) What are you watching/streaming on Netflix
    3) The IT section.
    4) Roast my Tacoma (for all generations), that was a brutally hilarious thread.
    5) There was a health/wellness section. Members would share difficulties they went through, and how they got through it. It had some great and gritty stories in it.

There were a lot of other threads, and I wish we had them here. Maybe some of the moderators can add them?

    Hey OP
You could be mistaken. And you are.
This forum like it or not is by far the most active and runs the smoothest.
Most of the fb groups are just noise. This forum and the other guy produce the most expert opinions

I think the forum platform is something of a dying breed any more with the advent of Facebook and YouTube. And that is unfortunate in my opinion.

I got heavily into one of the forums in the mid 2000s and several other active forums existed as well. But now most of them are gone or ghost towns. Back then we were all writing up and documenting our repairs and mods with pictures not videos and it all had very much a family or club feel to it.

But now it's hard to compete with a YouTube video of exactly the repair on exactly the make, model, and year you're looking for. So I'm happy to find a spot like this where we can share resources we have stumbled upon.

Also I agree with some other posts that note that much of the things that can be done, already have been done. As well there are not too many that are going to go crazy modifying their 50k vehicle. Hopefully the earliest 5th gens are now getting to that point where folks are willing to try some more radical stuff.

I don't follow other vehicles so I can't speak to those forums but I have found this one to be plenty active for my needs.

If you get bored....you can always ask for a tire recommendation, how much or what type of lift to get or oil change recommendations. Those topics are very dear to must and generate a lot of ...... :crapstorm:

Could seem more negative due to the downvote button. That doesn’t exist here so you get likes or people who disagree so whole heartedly they will comment. The ones who downvote on Reddit are the type to not like a user’s comment here and just move along because they have no meaningful contribution and/or can’t form their own opinion without an “influencer” telling them how to feel. There’s also the relative anonymity of the site. It doesn’t tell you who upvoted and who downvoted like it does here (for likes). On this forum, and others like it, your “reputation” can be influenced by what you like and comment. On Reddit, you can downvote and contribute to a toxic, instagram-wanking environment without anyone seeing your username or knowing you are doing it.

    40's are for amateurs...

You know they make DOT approved 54's, right?

I was sad to see that thread die so quick. Was hoping it would catch on

Tacomaworld is the sister site to this one but they’re the complete opposite, there’s a ton of knowledge on that forum and they have answers to the most random obscure problem. Not trying to bad mouth this forum but it’s just a very select number of members who post here regularly and honestly there’s like a loose zero actual useful knowledge on here that you can’t get from anywhere else online

there’s t4r there extremely knowledgeable when it comes to issues but their website is so extremely shitty (bloatware, always crashes etc) I won’t even attempt to go on it anymore

It’s unfortunate T4R.org was/is the de facto site for most people. This one is so much easier to navigate and doesn’t cause my phone to overheat when trying to open a thread. Started out on there and found my way here after I got fed up with the constant captcha tests to access a poorly optimized site
