295/70/17 Much Worse Than 285/70/17?

Following threads like this ahead of time figuring out what I'm gonna do when it's time, never thought of the pizza cutter option, BUT it's only one width less than the stock and it makes it a true 33+, AND they appear to be e rated and cheaper than the other options. Thanks, I will have to really considering this tire size.

What about rubbing issues? I have a 2" level kit on and if I remove my mud flaps, would I still have clearance issues? Also considered those viper cuts for the front bumper. Any info would be appreciated guys.

Lol I came to the realization recently that I can’t fit skinnies on my 9”wide wheels. Oops

Now I’m interested in skinny 35’s like a 35x10.5 or 35x11.5. But looks like in Canada, I’m not finding those sizes ever, searched Michelin, Yokohama, BF Goodrich, Mickeys, etc. and can’t find yet.

Didn’t realize this thread was still going. I decided to go with 285/75/17 A/T4w’s.

The rig handles them great. No need to regear in the flat plains of Texas.

Really just depends on a few factors like wheel offset, tire size and caster.

Keep in mind a lift won't help you fit big tires on these things. Only trimming will.

Yes but are SL worthy for any serious trail driving? I mean Colorado trails are pretty rough on the tires and I have had friends suffering from multiple punctures/rips/sidewall blowouts running C rated tires.

I cannot answer that because I don’t off road with my 4runner. Mine is a daily commute occasionally and more for the winter months. So someone who off road would have to answer that question.

Good call sticking with an SL. I've seen where the LT versions of some tires have less siping than the SL versions, so the SL will actually be better in snow.

Thanks James, I have posted about these Mickeythompsons Baja boss tires on numerous posts. I think they are a great tire when I tried them in the snow when I had my 265’s so I believe the 285’s won’t be no different. The only thing I noticed changing size was the bigger tire as for power loss did not feel anything at all cause of the 4lb difference.

I didn't post this initially for some reason, but the tires are E rated Nitto Ridge Grapplers 255/80-17, so like 33.3" tall and I guess they'll still fit on the stock rims, no problem.

I have the same size lift you do (2") and I exclusively run skinnies on my trucks and have for decades (both standard height and lifted, two Tacos, two 4Runners...not all at once lol). I ran 255/85R16's up until my newest 4Runner, and now 255/80R17's. My Toyo Open Country MT's are 33.3", just like the ones you're looking at. As Thatbassguy pointed out in his earlier post in this thread, people here and on Tacomaworld absolutely love skinnies. The performance is excellent, and they require the least modification. I removed my front mud flaps and then did the fender liner mod to get mine to fit without any rubbing whatsoever. 255/80 is basically the only true 33" size tire you can run on these rigs without the body mount chop, which is one of the biggest reasons they are so popular.

Very nice, it's funny, these "pizza cutters", allegedly skinny tires don't really look that skinny, I guess since they are really only one size more narrow than a stock tire, maybe if they were side by side with a fat tire, you'd notice more difference. Yeah, it seems that's the way to go. That will be my next upgrade along with the APex sway bar disconnects. Gives me some articulation and ground clearance without fooling with the suspension much at all. I think I'll run that for a while and see how she does.
