What I find is that it only really leaks when the car is nose down. Level or nose up seems to be fine. At least that's what happens in my case - my driveway has a good slope and if I leave it nose down and it pours, the insulation inside the hood can end up wet.

On level surface for me, it rained last night and the insulation was damp.

With a power wash, wet quite a bit but does not penetrate through.

Gotta see what happens if it rains while driving, but I assume that will be the least wet.

It also ends up wet if I pour water or hose it down directly on it

    Gotta ask,
    1. When you install the scoop, does it feel like the fasteners get snug before you feel the scoop seal?
    2. Maybe a recommendation to get your scoop to seal without too much headache.
    Buna-N O-Ring Splicing Kit

    Might be worth a try!

Direct water pressure on hood scoop, similar to touchless wash. More than enough time elapsed while soaking.
Water does not penetrate carpet. Dry to touch, but perhaps it could soak over a day and feel damp (hence my white water stains). No water leaked into engine bay anywhere else.
I slid my hand under the carpet, it is wet down in there from washing.
That being said, only a couple water drops came out from underneath hood carpet in one spot at the bottom edge, after hood stayed open.

    Conclusion:
The hood scoop isn't as fake as the haters say.
If it lets water in, it lets a little air in for extra HP

This recommendation is super cool. I’m not too worried about the fact that it leaks, it honestly feels very normal. Even if I were to get the seal to be perfect, by Toyota instructions the seal at the top carries a 1” gap between seals in two parts. So 2” gap total between seals where there is zero seal. Furthermore, the fake vent itself has zero seals by design and will leak no matter what, even the one that I took off leaks in the faucet, it’s inevitable.

that said, I like this kit and may very well use it to fix what Toyota failed to do.

Hey, thanks so much for checking it out! Yes, it takes a bit to penetrate the carpet, it beads for a bit and unless it sits it will slide off because the carpet has “deep channels” inside that can’t be seen or felt from the outside. (I’ll share a photo later). Overall, it sounds like you’re seeing at least some water, which makes it feel rather normal. From my analysis, it’s impossible for water not to leak to to absence or any seal in the “fake vent” itself and how it attaches to the fake scoop, as well as how the fake scoop seals against the body, you can see in my original photo that Toyota recommends two “1 inch” gaps at the top between two seals.

    My Solution, documented.

    1. I wanted to prevent water from getting through the scoop or screw holes.

    2. I needed it to still fit flush and clean.

    3. I wanted to prevent the damage to the hood paint. It is happening, and even after touching it up it went through that. Even after PPFng that spot it screwed up the ppf.

My solution involved thick EPT sealer up front. Gaskets on each side to lift the side from touching the hood but just enough that it’s still clean and flush. Prevent as much water intrusion as possible. The rear will still have minor water intrusion (very minor) because Toyota must leave gaps so that the hood scoop and hood enter each other at the hood scoop crease. There are no way around it.

After my install about 99.9% of any water intrusion stopped.
