    Something else to consider. With complexity comes what, reliability or opposite? Let's examine "driveability." Ever have a driveability issue, maybe even a subtle one? A vibration, hesitation, noise, or lurch? Diagnosing/fixing the issue can be hard enough when there's only one power train involved. Now add 2 power trains in series. Maybe they have trouble at the hand-off. Not enough to stop you but enough to annoy. Do you think the dealer is going to come through? Another thing is regenerative brakes. Do you think these provide the same honest feedback as hydraulic brakes? Electric power steering sure is inferior to hydraulic in terms of feel/feedback. My point is EV's have their pitfalls. It's not all cherries like the narrative would have you believe. EV's aren't magic, they're are a compromise. They have their pluses and minuses like everything else. And if you consider cradle to grave, they pollute more lol.

    Yota has done well with the Prius, which is why I was willing to give the Prime a try. We bought it because we bought a used limited 4Runner drove it cross country and another year or so, traded it for the Rav Prime during COVID, and made thousands on the runner, and paid MSRP for the prime, which was almost impossible, let alone only certain states where getting the Rav prime, and then the government rebates made it a great deal. Thanks everyone for helping me get our Rav prime.

    Toyota hybrids and EVs have the same shitty brake pedal feel as our 4Runners, using similar electronic boosters :laugh: In hybrids and EVs it's to mask the changeover from regular braking and regen braking.

    Hydrogen is the future. Toyota is working on a H V8 and Cummins on a 15.0L. I am replacing my Ram with the hydrogen one when the time comes

    Sure perhaps that's true
    We've all seen the YouTube vids on Hydrogen outlining the other issue regarding the fact that level of Hydrogen in the gas tank decreases over time on its own unlike gasoline so some extent.

    But,everything's impossible, until it's not.
    "Magic" can be technology we just don't understand yet.
    And I always say, the laws of physics only are the laws of physics on this planet, in this dimension.

    We need to recover a crashed alien ship with hydrogen technology and reverse engineer that bitch

    Do you think gasoline cars and gasoline tanks were perfect right from the start? Of course not. Give them time, they will solve the problems of hydrogen.
    And don't forget, very recently scientists discovered another way to fuse hydrogen without nuclear reaction. Hydrogen is the future, hydrogen runs the universe, so not why not our machines.

    Toyota is too conservative to come up with a product that will blow your mind. That's not their thing. But they will come up with the future Mirai that will give you 300 horsepower and 600 miles of range. Even today's Mirai is pretty neat.

    Efficiency with burning a fuel is limited by basic thermodynamics. Look up carnot efficiency. The Mirai's hydrogen storage tanks have enough for only about 50 miles of range if burned in a combustion engine. Converting hydrogen into electricity through a fuel cell, being not a combustion process, is able to achieve much higher efficiency.



    The only place you'll see Toyota doing hydrogen combustion is in a racing program or demonstrator where range doesn't matter.

    Youtubers with engineering degrees cutting through marketing fluff.
    If you take time to read the Cummins page, they say hydrogen isn't a good choice for passenger cars i.e. contrary to what Toyota believes. There's nothing on that page at all suggesting they're developing anything for light truck applications. Expect the Cummins name to disappear from the Ram line once the diesel engines become too difficult to meet emissions requirements.

    Hydrogen not only is the future for cars, it is going to be the future for all our energy needs. Scientists have discovered how to fuse hydrogen without releasing radiations, those harmful radiations are the problem with nuclear reactions. We will have clean/safe hydrogen fusion

    I'm indifferent on all this stuff
    But comparing Tesla sales to 4Runner sales I could care less, apples & oranges. 4Runner has next to zero sales attributed to honeymoon phase fads.
    Ain't nobody living out of a Tesla with solar panels in the bush. And then there's the 4Runner :p

    And, I am proof of this, the hottest chicks fckn dig 4Runner owners 10 to 1

    ^"FCEV" is short for fuel cell electric vehicle, i.e. not combustion.

    The article says Toyota will build 10 prototypes of the FCEV Hilux. That's very far from production.

    To put things in perspective, Toyota hand-built 400+ prototypes for 4th gen Tacoma development. That's the level of investment for a production model.

    Man I don't even want to know how many prototypes they built for the 4th gen 4R and still landed on that monstrosity (visually, imo) :D
    they started the big ass chunky spoiler too. The wiper and guts inside ain't that big..

    I do find it curious that people think that Toyota hasn’t read all the same articles and seen all the naysaying videos regarding hydrogen. I’m sure they ignore those. Toyota (and Cummins, BMW, and several other companies) are investing a tremendous amount of money and resources into this technology. They all have teams of engineers as well, and they aren’t idiots. I don’t think that someone on this or another forum knows something about hydrogen that Toyota doesn’t.

    To be fair, they've been around since 1888. :D

    I think some people are just looking for a better alternative.

    There needs to be a breakthrough in battery technology before I'll take them seriously as an alternative to ICE vehicles. A more environmentally friendly power supply would be a good start. Better range, and/or reduced charging times would also be good.

    I know things are improving. I'll be interested to see if they can ever really compete in a free market. Right now it feels like the government is just trying to mandate us into buying an inferior product.

    I do believe that they're a great option for some drivers, though. A lot of people never drive very far, so an EV is perfect for them.
