6th gen Speculation Thread

The overtrail supposedly starts at 68k. I may consider one after 2 years or so once the guinea pigs, I mean early adopters, test it out.

But yeah, these things get expensive fast and Toyota doesn't allow you to order them so I have a bad feeling the overtrails are gonna arrive here loaded to the gill just like how we can't avoid sunroof for the past several years on ORP with KDSS.

 

Pricing on the new LC is too much. I would get the GX if I had that money

 

Honestly maybe a smart move on Toyotas part. It will def set the 4Runner apart since it’ll be cheaper. Some folks don’t want a Lexus no matter how cheap it is. As some will want a Toyota no matter how expensive. Maybe that’s the crowd they’re targeting.

 

What worries me is it won’t just be cheaper in dollars… it’ll be “cheaper” in quality, as well. Right now the 4runner feels more more luxurious than the 3rd gen Tacoma. Textures, feel, stitching, joining of parts, attention to detail, etc. I noticed it immediately when I went from 3rd gen Tacoma to my 5th gen 4runner. The difference is huge.

Details you don’t notice at first glance, but when you really start looking at the details, there is a big difference.

Not a good look. I'd rather it have the Tacoma front end and Land Cruiser back end instead.

 

Gross. I think the Tacoma is angular for the sake of being angular, and this render smoothed it out, but did so by stuffing it full of donuts

Honestly, even if the 4R is just a SUV version of the Tacoma, it will sell like hot bread. The 4th gen TRD OR Taco is a much better looking truck than the 3rd gen.

 

More importantly, this SUV version of the Tacoma born a 6th Gen 4Runner is a much better looking truck than either the 250 or the 550 and it will cost less! The sky is the limit on sales of these!

Uh oh! Looks like TFL's 4th gen Taco broke. Not a good look for the 6th gen 4R, but let's keep in mind this a first year model, so let's see if a recall comes from this. But in the meantime, if these happen more often, the 3rd gen Taco and 5th gen 4R values will stay high or maybe even go higher, we'll see...

On one hand, I'd recommend people to sit out the 4th gen Taco and 6th 4Runner for at least 2 years and ensure the TacoRunner powertrain gets properly sorted out, it is taking Toyota 3 MYs or so on the turbo Tundras and as far as I know the jury is still out on that.

On the other hand I encourage people to dump their 5th/older 4Rs and 3rd gen Tacos as fast as possible so I can get my hands on a pre-20 to do a build on. I am a bit sad that Taco lost its hand operated E Brake. Maybe I should have gotten a 23 with manual while I still could but I do not like that 3.5 V6.

 

Yeah 100%, always wait a couple years so they can fix all the bugs, but I am with you on that, I want a beater 4R to mod and just beat the living shit out of it.

 

It barely looks different to me. The Tundra/Sequoia was a much more drastic improvement.

 

I saw a new sequoia while pulling out of the gas station today. It looked good and smaller than the previous style - it almost looks like what I expected the 6th gen 4runner would be. Took me a minute to figure out what it was

Apparently production start date is now showing up as September 2024, in some pretty reliable databases.

Should be in dealers by November? Publication date of this info is January 10, 2024.

 

Probably see it by late April or in mid may

 

If that production date holds true and doesn't get pushed back, I would say October-November.

Does it specify Tahara or Guanajuato?

 

Did they ever post what went wrong on the Taco?

 

Hopefully, but Toyota has traditionally held 4R redesigns to vest, until production has started. *Hopefully they've changed this stance.*

Maybe there's others, but at least one of them. Followed this site for years, so really hopeful Toyota doesn't catch on and start hiding this advance info from them.

Another similar website even had info for 2 model years out, but got bought out by some bullshit parent company who removed that advanced info. Arifleet, one of the best (low-key) sites ever for future automotive release dates. It was very accurate, too bad it's sucky now.

Maybe you should PM this guy for more info, hopefully he'll be very forthcoming. Don't say who sent you though (nor spook him into hiding).

Right now I'm driving around in a 4th gen Taco, built in January 2024. Pretty good feel and great boost when you floor it!

I test drove one yesterday for shits and giggles. I didn't redline it, but the midrange torque was fabulous! Overall, I was very impressed. If the 6th gen is an SUV version of that, I'll be very tempted!

I bet it was just the driveshaft coming out of the transfer case. I don't think it's a transfer case issue cuz Andre was able to get it out of 4L to 4H and then 2H.

I'll post the video when they release it.

 

How was the transmission? Most YT reviewers love it.
