I don't have a good explanation, but I did notice that when I install dome light in my 2018 and 2019 I used 31mm LEDs and they did not fit my 2021. So I used 29mm LED for my 2021. BTW I'm using cheap Amazon bulbs, I bet good companies have bulbs that fit perfectly based on year vs trial and error I had to face.

I've had good luck with Superbrightleds.com. Just recently, I replaced all of the interior bulbs with the ones below. I opted for 4000K color because I wanted brighter, but not necessarily whiter, light. These are a little whiter than the factory bulbs but not obnoxiously so, and a bit brighter but again, not obnoxiously so. I've had meso replacements in my tundra which were great, but they're blindingly bright.
You'll want three of these, one for the dome and two for the hatch.

You'll want eight of these, two for map, two for vanity, four for doors.

You will find that the MESO Custom LED are better than nearly everything else out there being Pushed.... Yeah sure one can buy cheaper bulb inserts that go in the Bulb socket and what they will find out is with some they are so hot running if you leave them on for too long the plastic around the socket starts turning darker brown and the copper tabs start to loose good connection. I know this because I have repaired one Tacoma map light assembly and a 4Runner rear dome light assembly <---- Replaced entire fixture.
