I can speak to the quality of TacoGarage DMMs. I have one in my 2020 Tacoma and absolutely love it! I’ve been waiting the arrival of something for my wife’s 2023 4Runner and now it’s here! Onto convince my wife this is the phone mount for her!

An EVEN better idea is to not make assumptions on how people are using THEIR vehicle, and just worry about yourself. There are many legit devices and use cases for a mount like this if you're doing more than going to the mall.

This is precisely what I've been looking for—order placed for the mount + mighty magnet kit.

Is there a projected ship date? I received the USPS tracking number on 1/6 but that was just the label. Thanks!

We have seen it before where the packages don’t get scanned until they’re about to be delivered. It happens more during the holidays but it’s not too common this time of the year…

It came last night and I figured, what the hell, and installed it. It was dark and I was "parenting" for half of it. Took about 30 minutes. I didn't snap everything back into place because I have a new stereo receiver coming tonight and I want to pop that in, then run my VHF and MicTuning wires through the dash to clean everything up. This product is sort of a perfect storm for me. I have been doing a bunch of work cleaning up my wires under the hood and figuring out my cab setup was an issue I had yet to figure out and this product certainly helps with a couple of things. I intend to use it to hold my VHF/UHF radio head and perhaps use the other side for a Lowrance or Garmin Tread GPS unit.

A couple of notes regarding installation:
    • Pry the HVAC controls from the passenger side is easier
    • I used a spring-loaded punch to create my indents. It was almost the perfect size, a little small, but I think it centered the divots pretty well
    • While holding my youngest, I was drilling some holes and I stupidly punctured my hand.
    • I initially used a 3/16" bit because that was the size of the bolts, but realized I should have used a 1/4" bit as recommended. The holes were just slightly off-center and needed to be slightly bigger to get the bolts into the proper slot

I'll upload some more photos once I get everything installed and cleaned up. Pretty stoked with how the dash should turn out. Everything is finding a proper spot. My goal was to have the passenger side and driver side have access to everything. Here is my thread regarding my "build":
    https://www.4runners.com/threads/5th-gen-build-a-baja-resilient-daily-driver.36058/

P.S. - posting multiple photos on this site kinda sucks, am I missing an easier way?

I also am interested but curious if anyone has figured a way to route a cable for the CarPlay? This is my wife's ride and she has to use CarPlay so finding a mounting solution where she can easily hook up is key. I like this type but also looking at the lower side mount style.

Yea. When you have the dash apart you can easily run a wire down. I ran a wire down for my VHF radio.

It’s easy. Once you have the dash out you can cut a little slot on the same plastic that you install the DMM at and run the cable behind the dash, the usb port from the bottom can be moved from the a lot that it is at into the back of the dash, then replaced by a different switch or a blank. The wire then remains hidden.

I got to admit, it was easier than I thought to install this mount on my 2020 TRD Pro. Being realistic, it took me about three hours from start to finish but, like everything I do, there was a hiccup. The hardest part was removing the lower dash face or the part with the AC controls. The key was using plastic prying tools and patience, but it came out just like the Taco Grage video shows. Really, the rest was cake. Just one thing to not do.

Don't drop the 10mm screws into the dash.
Don't drop the 10mm screws into the dash.
Don't drop the 10mm screws into the dash.
Don't drop the 10mm screws into the dash.

Dropping a fastener into the dash cost me about an hour of searching with a flashlight and a mirror. I didn't want to leave it and just replace the fastener for fear of it causing a squeak or fraying a wire. Once spotted it was fished out with a magnet.

Also, I disconnected the AC wires so I could remove the lower panel but did not disconnect the head unit. I really didn't need to. Reassembly was super easy as everything fit back together perfectly without issue. The mount seems super secure and everything from Taco Garage fit perfectly. I also added a short section of heat shrink tubing the bottom of the ball mounts just for aesthetic reasons.

Just follow the Taco Garage video and you really cannot go wrong.

I never really liked that ProClip mount.

P.S. My order number is #20789.

Awesome! That’s exactly what I’m hoping. She has a Rokfrom case so I’m thinking the magnet will work great with that.

I was hoping to get my DMM mounted today (so I would be one the 5 chosen ones) but with temps in the single digits it'll have to wait. :annoyed:

After disassembling the dash, I used a drill bit to mark the holes.

    17059350336678151249483360292651.jpg
I drilled pilot holes to get a better center.

    17059358200046901348634807725911.jpg

I then finished drilling the holes to 1/4" and attached the top and bottom plates.

    17059373998838307875905774832513.jpg

Finished product. Looks way cleaner than the shelf type dash mounts. Ignore the double sided tape. That will disappear when my hands warm up.

    17059385137598731419957220303695.jpg

Install took 45 mins. Pretty straight forward. No issues. Dash pops right out, even at 25 degrees. My hands are freezing.

Order # 20872..... Thank you. I love this mount.

Curious if there are any pics of the slim mount holding a phone. I don't want to use a magnet.

Thanks. I have an iOttie mount I like, I just don't know if it would attach to the ball mount or the reducer arm.
