Does a body mount chop damage or make your 4Runner weaker?

It was incorrect of me to say poor quality mild steel. It's their paint prep and paint that is garbage.

I should not have said anything after my first comment telling OP to not bother worrying about it.

I joke to myself that japanese 4runners and tacomas rust because they don't use steel that's been folded a bunch of times and their local steel is of poor quality.

Because of the shape of the front body mount in the drawing I question whether it is a 5th Gen 4Runner.

How many MPa do you think the cab mount material retains after a few salty winters?

 

It looks exactly the same as my 4runner as far as can tell. The front are small little mounts. The ones behind the wheel (the body mounts in question that are chopped) have that forward swept look. And the two sets behind it are small round ones like the front. All the xmembers are the same as well.

 

DRT relocation kit. It has a base plate that get welded between the mount and the frame. More surface area to spread the load across the frame.

 

Also think about being able to resell or trade your car if you go that route.

During the trade you’re obligated to disclose that.

I traded in my tacoma that had a bmc+ pinch weld flattening. They put it on a lift to inspect. And didn't even notice the modifications.

Nope. There are a hundred ways for a used vehicle to be unsafe (think rusted brake line, leaking fuel line, tire defect...). It's the buyer's responsibility to inspect the vehicle. If trading in, the dealer's used car manager will have decades of experience picking out defects for the purpose of de-valuing your trade - you don't need to give them any help.

 

I was curious, as I thought there was something where you had to report any kind of frame damage. But, as far as I can tell, the only thing you have to report (in Wisconsin, at least) is whether or not the odometer is known to be accurate, whether or not it was a fleet or rental, and whether or not it had a salvage title or flood damage. I may have missed something, but I did not notice anything specifically about the frame.

I understand that sentiment. I’ve only sold my old cars private party “as is”. I make it clear what I think it needs done, what’s bad, and what I think is good, then reiterate “as-is.” and what that means. If I sell my 4runner private party some day, and can’t or wont return it to stock, I’ll make it clear that it’s been modified and sold as-is. If they ask details, I’ll disclose details. I have no idea what a buyer would care about, so I’m not sure that listing out everything they might possibly consider a problem will help anything. If they ask details about the modifications, then I’ll explain specifically. I’ve sold a few motorcycles, which are deathtraps by design, and I have to assume the buyer is capable or taking some level of responsibility for what they are buying. I think the same goes for an obviously modified 4runner.

I suppose if a guy or gal with three little kids in tow falls in love with it, and says stupid stuff like “I love the cute bumper with the string on it”, I’ll probably tell them it’s a death trap, it’s not for sale anymore, and they should maybe consider a nice rav4 or highlander. Lol

 

If you truly read where you sign in the dotted line when you trade, there are quite a few things “that are not wrong with the car” that you agree to, as well as disclaimers about things you promise to have disclosed.

And you have disclosed everything to the best of your knowledge as a non-professional reading about 4Runners from random fuckers on the internet i.e. unenforceable After all, the dealer took the vehicle on trade-in after inspection by their licensed mechanic.

In reality, their offer on your trade-in has been de-valued by "repairs they'd need to do to bring the vehicle to standard". The dealer will go out of their way to point out all the things broken on your 4Runner, to make you comfortable accepting their low-ball offer.

 

Yeah, I’m sure a dealer contract will have all sorts of details that will allow them to take the deal back. They might not in this market, but if they wanted to they could make life interesting if all of a sudden they don’t want it. So in a way, it probably wouldnt matter if you verbally disclosed anything you could think of…signing the contract might actually nullify your disclosure unless it’s written down in the contract.

The BMC choice was made for me, after I chose to put red Loctite on the OE wheel studs before spacers.

 

Is red locktite that strong?

 

@K-Paul I mean I haven't tried to breaker bar the Spidertrax spacers, but I've read on here that once you red Loctite wheel studs for instance, you have to blow torch/heat the b*tch up first. Which I'm like, NOPE
