Hah you know what you raise some very good points!
I guess I'm a bit of a rural Canadian redneck, and have had cars with killer sound systems not only broken into but written off because components like a $1500 JL Audio amp stolen were bolted to the car, counting as part of its value $. Ultimately I don't give enough F's to stop doing these things

Seen a dude post about his hinges rusting out and Toyota dealership was true to him and replaced things.
Just bought the same recommended 'Rust Cure Formula 3000' @ Canadian Tire and applied.

Tinkering with an idea to extend, and as an added bonus, tilt, the solar panel. Currently have 200w permanently on the roof and tired of removing and storing another 200w panel inside the under the bed. Not to mention the risk of damaging the panel with all the moving in and out of the 4Runner. Thus, permanently installed the 2nd panel over the 1st one.

    IMG_9634.HEIC.jpg IMG_9635.HEIC.jpg

Hoping Mall Crawlers would appreciate me not invading the parking stall next to me at the mall, which would have been much easier, I extended the panel forward instead of to the side. Also, instead of drawer sliders, which would have also been easier to install and use, I used 80/20 self-lubricating UHMWT slot insert bearing pads as I did not want to deal with the sliders getting corroded due to the environment. Nor would the sliders allow me to tilt the panel at both ends, which might be rare but a bonus if needed.

    IMG_9636.HEIC.jpg

These supports are temporary until next week when I have (hopefully) a better idea to replace them.

    IMG_9637.HEIC.jpg IMG_9638.HEIC.jpg IMG_9639.HEIC.jpg

As an added bonus, the panel can be tilted in the front and rear. Leaning on the hatchback is only to demonstrate tilting the panel as I intended to add support brackets on each side that ought to hold up as long as the wind is not blowing. At most, tilting solar panels is beneficial for an hour or two before it has to be changed again. Thus, tilting the panel is only at sunrise and sunset, while at camp, as I otherwise move most of the day.

    IMG_9640.HEIC.jpg IMG_9641.HEIC.jpg IMG_9642.HEIC.jpg IMG_9643.HEIC.jpg

While not likely an option, as it impedes lifting the hatchback, the panel can also be extended to the rear.

    IMG_9644.HEIC.jpg

    Anyhow, more to come.

Do you think it might be overweight? And even top-heavy?

What!?! After all the hard work I just put in! :frustrated: Do you have the link for the panel? While I'll take it, I need space for a tandem bicycle rack.

    Yes, I appreciate it much.

Nice job. I know we had discussed this some in the grab handle thread, and you were contemplating this. I know what you mean about small things not being exactly perfect, but even so, no one but the person installing would notice. It's great having that grab handle, and especially it matching the passenger side. I used the same combo of Jason's bracket and the KTJO handle & trim panel. Mine was a bit challenging as I had already mounted the bracket, so I had to modify it a bit to get the bottom handle bolt to line up. I really like what you did.

Thanks, your comments on your installation were a big help. I think the hardest part of it was working in such a tight space without being able to fully see what was going on with the bottom part of Jason's bracket.

The original pedal covers come off and then these go on. My gas pedal didn’t have a cover (which I thought was weird but my husband has a 21 Pro and his didn’t have a cover either so that must be normal). Covers were easy to get off. I did notice that these new ones don’t wrap around the backs of pedals as much as the manufacturer ones but they wrap enough and appear to be secure. I really like them so far. The raised grippy lines feel more grippy than the original.

As a fellow Canadian (GTA) I’ll have to follow your example for preventative maintenance.

Finally got around to installing the C4 low profile bumper with high bush bar, and with an Extreme LED light bar and the Warn EVO 10s winch. This package is heavy, especially for us smaller drivers to install on our own. Not quite sure how these YouTubers lift it to install, even with a balancing act of using a jack. I built a frame to go onto of a cheap moving dolly to get close to where I thought the bolts would line up, and then used ramps to drive up slightly to perfectly line up. No back breaking effort.

Question on the light bar... can you turn the amber lights on independently of the white?

I did the cupholder velcro tweak yesterday to keep the cupholder insert from lifting out with my coffee mug.

I can't remember if the originator posted details, but I had two implementation objectives: the velcro self-sticking power had to outweigh the sticking power of the cupholder insert to the mug, and the velcro adhesive had to stick to the rubber surface and be durable under real-world temperature range. Therefore I selected "Extreme Outdoor Strong" Velcro, rated at 1 pound/sq in with an operating temperature range of 0F-140F. I completely covered the surface of the cupholder insert and let it cure under weight overnight. It didn't fail the first time I tried it. We'll see how it lasts in the long run. If the adhesive fails, I'll try heavy-duty double-sided tape.

3M 1357 Neoprene Hi-Performance Contact Adhesive. Use it on the velcro, use the "open time" & either cut in circle or radius the corners. 90 angles are weak spot for lifting. Used that stuff on A/C interior velcro WAY better then 1300L

Yeah, I cut round. I'll try that adhesive if the Velcro comes loose. Thanks for the tip!

I was thinking of maybe getting a set of those. Are you still running the dobs IMS shocks? It looks like it’s a different shock.

I ask because I wasn’t sure that shock skid would fit around the IMS shock, which has a pretty beefy eye mount.

Added a Kicker 49L7TDF102 down-firing sub. This complements the Trail Grid Pro KS series speakers very well! Very clean, punchy bass. Saves on cargo room as well!

FJ Toyman needed to know what shocks I had. I think it was Kings that needed a different size shock skid. I still have the Dobi's. Have been very happy with them.
