Do you guys typically have good experience with Toyos? I bought some highway tires for the Tacoma a few years ago, worst tire I ever experienced (worse than the Dunlop Grandtreks, honestly), and it turned me completely off of the brand.

Curious if I got unlucky, or if their quality is in fact hit or miss.

, For a e rated, do you think they ride stiff? I had e rated wildpeak at3w on my old jk and they where soft compared to the cooper at3s I had before. I'm probably going to be ordering the toyo trail rt in size 255 80 17. With the beefy side walls id image they appear wider.

To be honest, I don’t notice it being stiff but everyone is different. They ride a lot better than the Falken M/T’s i took off.

I had the ATx on my F150 and they hydroplaned wicked with about 20k miles on them. Terrible wet traction too (maybe not as bad on a 4runner since it's got way less power and more weight on the rear end but Falken AT3W were light years better on the F150 than the ATx in the rain). They were ok in the snow.

Interesting. I find these are great in the rain on this vehicle, never once had a hydroplaning issue. I'm past 40k.

Yeah, its odd but maybe difference alignment settings between the two vehicles contributed to the hydroplaning?. I'm sure the wet traction issues (other than the hydroplaning) can easily be explained by the light rear end and extra 100hp the F150 has. curb weight on that truck wasn't much higher than the 4Runner but even as a crew cab, the back end was light.

Well... Seems appropriate I chime in on my Toyos today.

I have been noticing lately mine are looking pretty worn. Picked up a screw this weekend and brought it in to have it plugged yesterday. They told me I should replace the fronts as they are pretty worn with a little cupping along with some 'dry rot'/cracking (which I noticed as well). The worst part about this is they only have about ~26K on them, not quite two years old and I have been religious about rotating them since new...

That said, I am guessing this is partially to be expected as maybe the Toyo Open Country AT3 is not meant to be primarily a road tire...? However, I expected more than ~26K out of them for sure. Probably need to be honest with myself about putting on the tires needed for the application. i.e. occasional dirt roads, mtb access, trailhead access and unplowed roads in winter. Or, if I am willing to spend the money on 'cooler tires' and having them wear quicker etc... Old man trying to not totally look like one.

Researching Generals now as I had very good luck with them on multiple vehicles in the past including a Honda Odyssey which are known for eating tires up and on my kids cars etc.

@NEguy hey that sucks, I actually haven't heard much negative feedback regarding Toyo's. I just like that they're the official tire of the UFC lol. My brother has new Toyo's on his GMC Elevation, time will tell.

I highly recommend General Grabbers. I almost A/TX's, but went with Mickey Thompson ATZ's. Mickey's have been unreal, load E tread barely worn after two years as my wife and kids local daily, and few offRoad + family trips.

People are going to recommend KO2's, or the "new" KO2: Falken Wildpeaks. Forget those, break the mold
    Goodluck

I have Toyo Open Country AT3 currently on my 4th gen.

Been to 10 National parks, all through the Sierras from WA to Socal, CO, MT, NV and a bunch of other outdoor and overland / offroad spots, lots of snow every winter for snowboarding trips. I am very surprised how durable they are. I am finally about to replace them and have squeezed every last mile out of these. Will be getting same tire again.

After all these years of car tire research and finally finding the best of the best in a car tire, going to the 4Runner is a whole different animal. I needed something good in snow, good in rain and can do some off roading with the chance of mud. So close to buying K02's but they just didn't fit my wide ranging needs and the rest fell short.
I decided on Duratracs with hesitation since my old Goodyears (Non Duratraces) sucked. The Duratracs came highly rated by all my construction, plow and work friends so I decided to go with them and they have been perfect. Awesome in the snow and mud decent in the rain and are not that noisy for a borderline mud tire. Have then going on 2 years now and very little tread wear.

Nice great to know! 2 years ago I waited months and months for Duratrac Wranglers I purchased to arrive. Only to get a call advising me the tire eta had changed to unknown due to manufacturing and supply chain failures. Had to pull the plug, start all over and ordered Mickey Thompson Baja ATZ's. Sometimes, things happen for a reason, cuz I'm in love with Mickey's now :)

Tried playing in the 3” of snow just got, but the Falkens just grip too much in 4wd. I had to go to 2wd and turn the traction control off to have a little fun. Lol!

I just put the Geolander X-AT (stock size, load range C) on my new TRD OR. I've only had them on there for 3 days so I can't exactly give you a review. I really like the tread pattern and the fact that they have 3 ply sidewalls.

I had the Toyo Open Country AT3's on my Subaru for about three years. They seemed to be ok but for the last year or so they have gotten extremely loud. The main reason I wanted to try a different tire on the 4R.
