What have you done to your 5th Gen 4Runner today?

I was gonna just post about getting the windows tinted but something else got delivered

That's weird man because when I put the same tires on my ORP. I rubbed a lot on both side of the wheel and had a lot of marks to prove it.

I even rub on the frame slightly I noticed recently but I think that's when I'm fully locked and fully articulated off road.

-12 offset MR701 wheels.

 

0 offset will have more rubbing. I tried with +4 and it rubbed on road until I add a slight lift. Need to test offroad and see if I need more lift. My 4x4shop say atleast go 2in lift front.

Also every video on YouTube with 285s on +15 wheels rub on mud flaps. Front bumper rub can be easily fixed with trimming. All my 4runners after lift mud flap rubbing was solved. So with my experience all this no lift 285 post I'm like meh...

I have to test offroad and it would specifically have to be a a specific scenario at big down drop for lot of weight in front tire and at specific angle. Because swaybar is also fighting not to compress suspension in full and when swaybar is level at on pavement level when it twists its pulling the wheel forward in theory if you think about a circular motion. Also full lock doesn't rub. Its that position slightly before fully locked could be the rubbing point.

Those tires dont rub on the UCA on stock wheels?

 

Atleast on my 4runners,

• 285 KO2 on +15 wheels didn't rub on SPC UCA
• 285 Falken Wildpeak AT3W on +15 wheels didn't rub on factory uca
• 285 Toyo Open Country AT3 on +4 wheels didn't rub on factory UCA (not tested offroad yet)

This isn't the norm for me. I do alright but I'm not rich. This build has been on my bucket list for many years. My wife passed last year and her bucket list wasn't done. At least I'll have this checked off in a few weeks once the rest of the items for my build arrives.

Plus, I wanted to see what it felt like to toss the warranty out the window on a week old vehicle....mission accomplished, lol.

I think I would definitely be rubbing with -12 offset. These factory ORP wheels are +15, so I would basically be another inch closer to everything at full lock.

 

Really sorry to hear about your wife dude. I'm sure she'd want you doing things that make you happy like getting that SC. If I weren't around anymore, my wife getting a SC would be top on the list of things I'd want her to do although I think she'd probably do something else

Don't need to be apologetic about spending money. It's worthless unless you spend it and I'm sure you deserve it. I meant jealous as a back handed compliment. I really am happy for you. Love seeing bad ass builds.

 

correction! I went and double checked the mud flap at just before full lock as @kmeeg noted and I am just barely rubbing there. If I can get the mud flap in a little tighter it would create plenty of room.

i thought the heat and push thing was for the fender liner? i had to remove my mud flaps running 17X8.5 wheels with 4.5 inch backspacing and +0 offset due to rubbing on the mud flaps and this was with 265 tires. the rubbing wasnt that bad but still could hear it at full turn.

 

i watched a vid of a guy who did the liner as well as mud flap. He also drilled 2 holes in the mud flap and zip tied it back for even more room

 

That's why we were all ignoring him hahahahaha

Oil change.

 

Ordered some Sherpa feet (just to get the rubber blocks and spacers) so I can have a Westcott rack without having to use sealant to ensure that water stays out. Will get this all done tomorrow hopefully (if the weather stays below 110)

Put a physical switch on my Warn remote. It's always on waiting for you to hit the power button to fully power up so drains a battery in a week. Also had put in a larger battery that lasts a month.

Had to grind the switch down a bit and the remote to fit it as well as the back side of the remote to fit the wires. Best of all, when I put it back together, the remote still works!

 

Finally got my ARB single compressor installed and connected to my Switch Pro 9100 today. Stoked to see what the air time per tire is like with 285s.

Well in typical Amazon fashion, I was sent wrong tail lights. The ones I had ordered are NOT supposed to be a sequential start up. I'm sorta on the fence about keeping them. Thoughts/opinions?

Honestly i don't hate it. Kinda busy with the pillar lights on startup. But i got used to my alpharex startup with my pillar light start up. But it may grow on you.

I've got the same sliders and love them. I got the sliders powder coated and the top treads Rhino type lined.

 

Just installed my HUD.. wow super cool and very easy to install.. now I need to go test it out during the day and night..
