    Two questions: 1) what is the cost of pedal device vs. a tune? and 2) how much extra hp/tq does the tune provide, over what rpm range?

    If the cost difference is minimal, I'd go with the tune. If the cost difference is large, and the hp/tq gains are minimal with the tune, I'd go with the pedal device.

    Can’t speak to other tunes, but the OTT tune HP/TQ results, done in my T4R, are posted below:

    Tuning naturally aspirated Toyotas will not yield massive peak HP and TQ gains, Toyota just doesn’t leave a ton of power and torque on the table. But meaningful gains can be made at various points in the rpm range. OTT focuses on the low end, as that improves a lot of common driveability issues. Boost the torque below 4000 rpm and the vehicle doesn’t have to shift as much. Combine that with improved shift scheduling and throttle response, and the overall package is impressive.

    Cost varies for both tunes and throttle controllers. There are $150 throttle controllers and $400 throttle controllers. Same goes for tunes, there are lower cost and higher cost tune options. OTT uses a few different software options and cost varies by application. Most all 2010-2019 T4R’s do not have transmission access, and therefore are priced lower, 2020+ T4R’s do have transmission tuning, plus increased software costs, so are priced higher. Generally OTT tunes range from $450-$650 for naturally aspirated 4Runners.

    Tunes are more expensive than throttle controllers, but provide more performance as well.

    I live in California where everything is illegal (I might even be breaking some kind of law by keeping this tab open in the background), so I'm using the Sprint Booster. I love it. It doesn't make the car faster, but it gives me more power with less input. I love it and wish the ECU/throttle came mapped like this.

    So you got 7.5hp and 9lb/ft of torque for $450-650? Oof. That answers my question. I know there are areas under 2500 rpm that have better numbers but that's basically off-idle.

    I'd be way more interested in the 10% torque gain at ~2200 RPM's. That's a significant increase in usable power.

    Not sure what you’re looking at, but at peak it’s closer to 10HP/10TQ, but the TQ gaines below 3000 rpm are better. A pedal commander gets you 0 HP and 0 TQ for $300. Again, Toyota doesn’t leave a lot on the bone as far as WOT Dyno pulls.

    The tune is more about the sum of the parts vs just adding HP/TQ. A little more torque, improved shift logic, and better pedal response make a noticablly better driving experience. Whether it’s worth the $ is up to each individual. I know I don’t want to go back to stock, YMMV…

    I have the Ultimate9 X peddle throttle adapter, but got it because of the Bluetooth only ability and locking out input of the gas peddle for an added layer of theft prevention. I only ever had it set on Factory peddle input as I’ve been fine with the truck. But I’ve recently added weight (body armor, molle panels/shelf, and 285s in C load) and I feel it if n factory mode. Started using a mild setting a couple of days ago and it feels less impacted now. I know eventually I will get the OTT Tune.

    You know, you're not wrong. I do argue/debate a lot here. It's usually well intentioned, but I know I can be a smart-ass at times. So, I apologize. I probably could have chosen a better way to say what I said earlier.

    Here's my position:

    I don't personally have any complaints about the 4Runner that a pedal commander would fix. So, when someone says that it sucks stock, I just can't let it slide, even though I know it's just an opinion.

    I should specify that it is MY OPINION that it's fine stock, and I know I'm probably in the minority.

    I think the PC (and other similar devices) are worth every penny if it improves your driving experience! I would never discourage anyone from buying one, as I rarely have heard a complaint about them. And, I won't deny that I might even enjoy it. It's just that there are about a million other things that I'd rather spend the money on.

    I tried to read most of the comments, I have and like the Pedal Commander, and it cost $300 CAD - wouldn't necessarily call it cheap. What's important to ask is how much are you willing to spend? A tune or a regear is much more than a PC!

    I am not sure this is accurate. I think the Tacoma and 4Runner tunes simply flash the ECU (KDmax and OTT tune) and can easy be reverted to OEM. Overland Engineer has a great YouTube video on it that if Im not mistaken he details reverting his rig to the stock ECU tune at the end of the video. Can anyone with a tune confirm this is accurate?

    I have no idea if you’ve driven a tune or not. But I can tell you my personal experience, the increased torque in this 1000 rpm (2000-3000 rpm) range greatly changes how this vehicle behaves in many driving situations. It is the difference between holding a gear and downshifting in many situations.

    Next time you go for a drive see where you spend most of your time in the rpm range.

    Whether you want a tune or not is your choice. I’m just sharing my experience. In the context of this thread, you can have what the tune offers or a Pedal Commander that just scales throttle. The tune can do what the Pedal Commander does, the Pedal Commander cannot do what the tune does. Your $, your choice.

    This is extremely appealing to me! I generally don't exceed 2500 RPM's unless I'm in a hurry, or need to make a move. I actually think there's a decent amount of torque there, but the gearing is a little too high. I think these things should come with 4.10's.

    This isn’t for him. It’s for everyone reading this.
    Only issue for you is we don’t have transmission tuning access for the 2019. So you can’t experience the full experience those of us on 2020+ get with the engine and transmission tune. You can experience the engine tune, which bumps the TQ in that range, and the benefits that come with it, along with throttle improvements. It’s solid, but unfortunately not the full experience. It is priced accordingly though, around $400 for an ECU only tune.

    VF tuner states they are gaining transmission access on the older T4R’s so only a matter of time before the full experience is available to all. It’s weird, as some 2010 T4R’s have full Transmission access, so it’s spotty.

    Nice try - go back and read the thread. You asked the OP if his 3/2 lift was a body lift or a suspension lift. I asked you to point to a 3/2 body lift kit to point out the ridiculousness of your question, then you started in with your usual insults. That earned you a little vacation, didn't it?

    Off idle TQ is what you want. That's what helps drivability, since lower RPM is where the engine spends most of its time.

    The problem with the 4.0 is not the peak numbers, it's that they occur so high in the RPM range.
