    I'm running a 285/70/17 no BMC or trimming at all. I'll be running a KM3 in a 285/75/17 I've made my decision. I'm waiting for the C4 wings to install them. Then I will do the BMC.

    I was peeping on this post because I am making the decision to move to 34's and I like to be annoyingly thorough. It is interesting to me that so many people have such a variation of setups with BMC's, trimming, etc. on the 285/70 tire.

    I think tire brand and trim level sometimes matters here, maybe the shop you get it done at and a lift maybe? I have a 23 TRD Pro with the stock suspension but with the Westcott Pro level lift and changed the OEM 265/70/17's to 285/70/17's. It was hardly a difference, no rubbing at all. No real huge difference really. So it's interesting to see that so many needed a BMC with the 285/70's and I dont touch at all.

    So I am looking at gaining a little extra height with the 285/75/17s which has in turn snowballed into needing to accommodate in other ways. I will say this, the research I have done is that UCA's are a requirement for this. A trim is necessary... the mudflaps will have to go and a small trim to the bumper (or a full viper cut). I test fit a 34 on it with a negative offset wheel and was BARELY rubbing but still rubbing. It was worse with a baby flex (curb).

    A BMC is likely if you are ever going to flex your wheels but I am going to TRY to get away without one.

    It has been a difficult decision because it is a LOT just to gain an inch. It is also why I am overkilling this decision just to make sure.
    285/70 seems to offer a sweet spot but I feel like I'd enjoy the extra inch of height and beefy look even if it's about 40 lbs heavier overall than the current tire which is minimal in comparison?

    Falken 285/70/17 C Load (6 ply) is 54.97 lbs (anthemwheels.com source)
    Falken 285/75/17 E Load (10 ply) is 65.5 lbs (tiresize.com source)

    For reference, the top pic is OEM 265/70/17 on a TRD Pro
    The middle and bottom pic are the 285/70
    I haven't done the 285/75 quite yet but if I do, it will happen within 2 weeks. I already ordered the UCA's (Apache Offroad)

    Toyo at3 c rated 285 75 17 are 58ish lbs i believe.

    From what I’ve been reading, anyone with a Westcott lift for the pro and running 285/70/17 did not need to do anything else (BMC, UCA, etc…) and have no issue with rubbing

    is that no rubbing at full lock off roading or just on pavement?

    Was watching this thread while trying to decide myself. Ended up doing the 285/75/17 BFG KO2. I love the look and it does feel better to me offroad than the 285/70. I did total chaos upper control arms and king 2.5 shocks front and rear. Also did an eibach rear coil. Had accutune revalve the shocks for their adventure tune (daily drive use and trail use) and rides great. I reset the computer because I replaced my battery same time I did the lift and after about 1000miles the computer is telling me I’m getting 13.6mpg if anyone was curious. I think it’s closer to 14 because I was playing in the silt in Mexico and had it floored hahaha.

    Deff had to chop the cab mount and when I got it aligned I had them push the caster forward more to clear the back of the wheel well better. I found out in Mexico that the front tire hits the inner fender before the bump stop hits so I added a spacer on the factory bump to make it strike sooner. Might order a pair of those durabumps soon to try those.
    I can get a better shot this weekend when I head to Ridgecrest.

    If you haven't regeared, or had the speedometer and odometer recalibrated, you're getting closer to 14.5 due to the extra diameter of the tire. So, that's pretty good! :D

    Haven’t regraded yet so yeah you’re right. I was about 4mph faster than speedo reading at highway speeds. That photo was also before we cranked the front coil overs down a little more to level out the front.

    Loving the look! How much of a spacer did you add to your OEM bump stop...and did it help? lol

    I just ordered the Durobumps, going down this same route and hoping to have a proper bump stop solution in place to avoid contact with the inner (upper) fender.

    By the math, a 285/75/17 winds up at like 33.8. while a 285/70/17 winds up around 32.7.

    You're correct, it's the 75 that makes the difference.

    285 × .70 = 199.5 mm sidewall
    285 × .75 = 213.75mm sidewall

    So, you gain 14.25mm sidewall height, or 28.5mm more diameter.

    I've found 285/70R17 don't rub with lifts as long as you don't have large negative offset wheels. It's about the wheels. It's about the wheel spacers. 0 offset wheels, no rub. 1.25" spacers, major rubbing lol

    I added some oversized washers we cut at work to add to a motor mount kit for the for broncos. I think it’s a 3/16 sheet we cut them from. I haven’t had the chance to cycle them fully and test. I have a feeling I might need to add a second one in there, but I’d rather order the better bumps instead. After all she isn’t a street princess and sees a fair amount of off-road. I have the rear bump kit being delivered today that accutune released a couple weeks ago.

    I’m headed to ridgecrest this weekend to mark a motorcycle race course so I should be able to test out this weekend. Mounting an awning on the rack though so might not go full send. Will have to test the integrity of that mount also. :burnrubber:

    No rubbing with stock suspension, even when off roading quite aggressively (articulation slow speed). Plus they're probably quieter than my Nitto Terra Grapplers and they fit the narrower 7" wide wheel many of us have (TRD SEMA). Stock wheels are 17x7.5". 285s don't belong on 7" wide wheels which mine are.

    Well hundreds of folks run 285's on stock wheels.

    Also, 255/80/17 seem to only be available in Load E rating.

    10s of thousands, probably. But if you look it up, they're not meant for that width. If possible I try to follow the engineers and folks that know their line of work so I sleep a bit better.

    Yes mine are E, but I want that as I'm tired of getting flats often and I'll take the supposed edge it gives me along with my tire manufacturer's claim of reinforcement. No idea how much it helps but I'm trying lol.

    285/70r17 Falkens. But I prefer the 315/70r17 K02s.

    BMC, pinch weld mod, trim some plastic up front, 3” Dobinsons lift, a good ass alignment.
