Guess the joke fell flat. I asked earlier if you ran over imitation crab. The picture you provided looked very much like imitation crab. Many people liked my comment when I asked if you ran over said imitation crab. You never replied so I quoted myself asking once again about the imitation crab in your undercarriage with a reference to the old National Inquirerer tabloid who's motto was "Inquiring minds want to know".

Here is said picture you provided which again appears to be imitation crab splattered on your undercarriage...

Also for reference this is what imitation crab looks like. (Google image, I take no credit)

I just installed the stainless version this weekend. It’s a high quality piece. MillerCat recommends the stainless for max theft prevention since it’s harder to cut through. The thickness between the two isn’t much different (16gauge SS vs 12 gauge Al). I figured the added peace of mind was worth the $100 price difference.

Yes, that is the one. But I'm laboring over aluminum or stainless.

I read that thieves prefer seeing the stainless because it is actually easier to cut. The aluminum melts while cutting due to friction and clogs the teeth of the saw. Also you get longer life from you CAT with the aluminum as it dissipates heat better.

What is the weight difference between the stainless and aluminum?

I asked MillerCat that, and their response was 2-3 lbs if I remember correctly.

I also got the stainless, as I don't want any oxidation issues with aluminum being attached to steel.

Here's a link to MillerCat's comparison of the stainless vs aluminum shields. https://catshield.com/blogs/news/304-stainless-vs-aluminum

Also, it should be noted that gauge thickness of stainless and aluminum are not directly comparable (e.g. 12 gauge SS is not the same thickness as 12 gauge Al) since sheet metals all have their own separate gauge charts. Aluminum gauge thickness's are thinner than the equivalent SS gauge. In the case of these shields the 16guage SS is roughly 1.6mm thick vs 2.0mm for the 12gauge AL. That .4mm difference isn't going to make up for the higher strength of the SS.

I checked the specs on their site; aluminum = 2 pounds and stainless = 4 pounds.

How many miles? You would have to really drive it hard to wear out the originals in 2 years.

I just traded in a Tacoma with 45k and the front pads still had more than half the original thickness.

800 for a brake job is insane unless you need new rotors and then there are other issues with calipers etc... . pads and resurface rotors is nowhere near 800 and is 30-45 min per tire at max (assuming stuck bolts, etc)... .
