Anything I should know about KDSS going in?

    I have a 2008 Land Cruiser and a 2013 TE with it.

    Hasn’t failed, but I’d probably not get it it if I had a choice.

    Both trucks are lifted.

    It happened weeks after the lift. I went wheeling and flexed the suspension and noticed the 1” lean on the passenger side when I got home.

    Also, I was following a stock GX a few days ago and the rear looked leaned and it was stock. Old couple driving it so I doubt it was tampered with.

    So, you never did anything with the valves? If there is actually a lean, I believe it can be corrected. There is a way to readjust it.
    I don't know what any of that means. :D

    I tried that and it corrected about .5” but still had a lean so I threw in some spacers.

    But I’m still happy with how it rides. If anything once it’s paid off maybe I’ll solid axle the GX and get rid of the KDSS :)

    TRD skidplate and rims, Greenlane sliders, Bilstein shocks, K&N intake, Thule, Philips LED, BFG KO2s,
    KDSS is the way to go, excellent handling. STRONG SUGGESTION:remove both KDSS guards along left frame rail, drill extra holes to encourage debris drainage, spray everything with Fluid Film, put anti-seize on all 4 12mm nuts, remove and clean these areas twice a year.

    I'm looking forward to seeing pictures of your SAS'd GX! :D

    I'm still really enjoying it as well. I hope that if it does fail, it's years down the road. Once I'm no longer daily driving it, I might be tempted to remove the sway bars and do a long travel setup anyway.

    I have KDSS and really like it. I am not into big lifts and at the limit off-roading. I am more of an overlander and love the reduction in body roll that KDSS eliminates.

    As someone who wheels often and works on their own runners, I am extremely glad I have a normal sway bar. Handles fine on the road and makes working on suspension 10x easier in my opinion.

    I don't really think it adds much work. Changing suspension components is pretty much the same procedure. Improved on-road handling is actually a secondary function of KDSS. Improved off camber articulation is the primary feature.

    I definitely think it’s easier to install suspension with a regular sway bar up front.

    Installing a lift on KDSS takes me twice as long because I can't manipulate the control arms. And when it comes to off-roading I still would rather run no sway bars at all than KDSS.

    So now it's only twice as hard? :boink:

    EVERYONE would prefer no sway bars at all off road.

    But, daily driving a vehicle without sway bars doesn't sound like fun to me. A 4Runner with sporty (for a brick) handling on-road and basically a partial sway bar disconnect off-road was well worth a little extra work to me. Hopefully if it ever fails it will be after I have another primary vehicle and I'll just lose the sway bars altogether.

    Thanks for the input! It's moot now as I already ordered the truck and in Canada all TRD ORs come with KDSS, it's not an option (which is a great value) and I wanted a lot of the other stuff the OR has vs the SR5 anyway.

    I am looking to keep it long term but with the resale value on these I can keep my options open. I'm trading in my 2017 Tacoma for 4Runner and I am already $6000 ahead on trade due to the value of these trucks (and my low miles).

    Now, regarding the failure of the KDSS system, worst case can't you just unbolt it and install the SR5 sway bar? $9700 seems like a ridiculous repair bill.

    So as long as you don't lift you don't have to worry about a lean with KDSS?

    Not really sure. I was following a stock GX and it was leaning. Maybe he had some weight in the back to one side haha.

    You could swap in parts from an SR5 ir limited (I believe the Limited has the same sway bars) or a non-KDSS off-road. Or, run without sway bars depending on how you drive.

    There's a good chance it will never be an issue.

    That's not necessarily true. But, plenty of KDSS equipped 4runners are running around lifted without any issues. I would recommend a moderate lift, though, to be safe.

    None that I am aware of. It seems unlikely, as long as some care is taken to maintain the system. Any known issues I've read about were on modified vehicles or caused over time by corrosion.

    My buddy with a GX and the exact same lift as me never had a lean issue. Some have it but most don’t.

    Now if you’re telling me I can swap regular sway bars and not have the KDSS I might try that. Remove KDSS and sell it, install front sway bar and not run one in the rear for that flex :muscleflexing:

    I'm not 100% sure on that, but I don't see why not.

    Ya with how expensive the system is I’d have no problem getting rid of it. Or just try out the sway bar method and if it rides worse I can throw the KDSS back in.

    Aside from increased body roll, ride quality should remain similar. Why do you want to get rid of it, though?

    Not going to get rid of it unless I start having issues. I just want to make sure I can swap regular sway bars and it looks like I can. I just read that a small number of GX460s came without KDSS but they’re rare.

    Heads up everyone if you have the oem rock rails and KDSS you won’t be able to remove the KDSS cover without taking out the rock rail. I ended up using a dremel and cutting a small piece off the cover bracket. I applied new paint and was able to remove the cover. Thing was covered in mud, dirt, rocks, etc. Good thing I listen and removed it to clean. I’ll be doing this every few months.

    Also, I was able to install the lights into the factory side step bracket holes haha

    I have a 2016 with KDSS. The front ram is now leaking and the fix is $4,700. I would pass on getting it again

    That was just cost to replace front ram. There is a possible delete odd the whole system for $2,000 which I am contemplating along with new shocks. The rams are rubber and over time they Crack and leak especially in our super cold weather in Canada. Maybe longer lasting elsewhere? Hope this is helpful!
