Is there a consensus for the ideal wheel offset to reduce rubbing??

How much room is there between the inside of the tire and the control arm? Do you think a 285 will rub? I am looking into ordering 285/70r17 KO2s and keeping stock wheels if possible. Those tires run a bit smaller so I should clear front and back - but someone mentioned that it would rub on the control arm....

I'm parked in my driveway with my nose pointing downhill. I measured on flat surface surface from hub center to top of fender well.

Hey runner4it, bottom line is whether you're happy with it. As long as it's what you want, its good. Having said that you're measuring mainly lift height. That's a great measurement for fitting larger tires, which is what most guys want out of their lifts. But if you want level, try parking on a hard level surface and put a masons level on the bottom of the frame rail. Even then there are other factors involved and you may have to just eyeball it. Its pretty subjective, where the positive and negative range merge at level 0.

 

yup, makes sense. My only point really was that ground is not level, nor did I hold the phone level when taking the picture. I mentioned the rake because the rear springs are supposed to be 2" lift to give a "level" stance, but because I went heavy springs the rear was lifted more than the spec'd 2" without adding additional weight to the rear. He ordered the same kit minus the stiffness so just wanted him to realize the difference.

 

Turned full left and full right. I can about get two fingers between the tire and the upper. With any flex in the suspension and tire wall I'm pretty sure a 285 would rub. Would be close though.

 

I think you’re right. And, even if it didn’t rub it would be very close. So a wheel with a a bit more negative offset is all but a must. Or a wheel spacer... now, a dilemma is if I settle for 275/70r17 KO2 in e load - or splurge on a set of wheels to be able to clear the control arm with a 285 tire - but then risk of having to do a BMC. I think that 275 might just be a more sensible option here.
Thank you for taking the time to take the pictures. It really helps a lot while I am waiting on my kit to arrive. I would really like to get it all done all at once and get it right first time around.

Mildly indecisive myself. Right now i'm looking at 17x8.5 0mm offset with either 275 wildpeaks or 285 ridge grapplers. A friend of mine has 285 ridge grapplers on 0 offset wheels that i'm going to test fit. I'm not trying to dog down the 4r too much with too large of diameter and weight of wheel/tire combo. I do tow occasionally so that's a major consideration for me. Body mount chop isn't a huge worry to me.

 

So go for it. Worst case is you buy thin shim style wheel spacers to run that set of tires and then put 275 on after.

 

Saw this in town today. I couldn't help but laugh out loud. I think the driver heard me because he sped off in a huff and big blue cloud of exhaust smoke...

This is what im adding to the wife new SR5 premium MGM. Cooper st maxx 255/80/17 same as on my tacoma and i love them. Going with dobinson 3/2 lift for her but debating on 1.25 in bora spacers wit hthe st maxx for a little stance. Pros /Cons? anybody run this setup?
