Eibach pro kit stage 1

No, I had a 4x4 shop install mine with alignment. I don’t have the proper tools and space to do this myself, especially dealing with KDSS.

Last week I got a call from BuyBrakes saying that Eibach informed them that I wouldn't get a shipment until June 26th. I checked my junk folder on my email and found a shipment notification, the expected delivery date is June 2. Now to get my JBA UCAs ordered. The frustrating thing is that I have already swapped by 2019 OR wheels for TRD Pro wheels, which will not allow for 285s with the JBAs.. oh well, i will just go with 275 BFG KO2s.. i'll lose the 1/4" but will save about $300 between the tires and other brands of UCAs.

you still rubbed with 275 and having the Eibach installed?

 

Was going with the exact same setup except I was using the OEM OR wheels. I thought they would work but after I bought the JBA’s I looked at the website and my wheels with 285’s won’t work. Contemplating 275’s or just biting the bullet and getting new wheels and 285’s that will fit. First world problems...
Those JBA control arms are beefy..

 

Do you think 285's would fit if you didn't use the JBA UCA's? I have the TRD Pro rims and want to go 285's with this kit.

 

Cheapest route is to get wheel spacers.

That might not be your thing though......I don't know.

Of course getting wheel spacer (or negative offset wheels) may cause rub on the body mount or fender plastics, so that might need trimming.

 

That'll work. You may need to trim a little.

 

Just get a different UCA.

I don't mind a little trimming.
I have it down to 3. Eibach pro kit, Bilstein 6112/5160 stage 2 kit, and the Icon Stage one. The Eibach appears to be the only one that is under 3 inches, but if I can fit 285 its worth the savings.

 

Not sure as I don’t have a lot of experience with this, I just try to research and ask questions. I was going back and forth between JBA and Dobinson’s but once you have them pre-assemble them and shipping, your looking at around $700 +. The JBA’s were the best value in my opinion. Just in what I’ve read, there are probably other UCA’s that will accommodate the setup you want.

 

You can fit 285's on a stock 5th gen with some minor trimming.

It's not the lift height that's the issue. It the fender width.......as in you can easily rub on the front or back of the fender well. Wheel spacers and/or negative offset wheels exacerbate it.

I have Eibachs. I love them so I can't recommend them enough. Bilstein 6112/5160's are great as well, but more expensive and to be honest, I don't think you get much more for the extra money you spend on them. Others may disagree with that. Icon......I don't have much experience with, but have heard quite a few negative things about leaky shocks. Maybe that's been fixed.

 

Yeah, people seem to be completely divided on Icons. some say they are absolute Garbage, and some say they can go for 50k plus miles without needing a rebuild. I like the whole rebuild factor and kings are out of my price range. Unfortunately I have heard more bad than good about the Icons.

 

Yeah, I've heard the same about Icon. For that reason alone, I'd consider something else, personally. I wouldn't feel comfortable risking it. Yes, King coilovers are more expensive, but they are for a reason. The quality of Kings is very high. Do you really need coilovers? If you want them, get them but you might be able to get by just fine on a coil/strut kit like Eibach or Bilsteins.......which are both very high quality as well.

Oh yeah.....forgot to say that Eibachs an Bilsteins have options to lift between 0 to 2.75" or so. You're going to want to stay below 3" otherwise you start running into CV angle issues.

 

Finally got my shipment notification from buybrakes. Kit should be here end of this week!

 

Will 285's not work on the OEM OR wheels because of the aftermarket JBA's or did it tell you that 285's won't fit on the OEM wheels? I'm planning on running 285 KO2's on OEM wheels and didn't think that would be an issue since I feel like I've seen others with that setup. Is that not going to work?

 

My interpretation of the graph on JBA’s website was that the size of the tire (285’s) and combination of the OR wheel offset and backspace you’ll rub, again that’s the way I interpreted it. I tried calling and emailing them a few times but never got thru. So I just purchased wheels with offset and backspace according to the graph on the website that will work with a size 285 tire. However, 275’s will work with the OR wheels. They also specify BF Goodrich tire measurements, so if you’re going with another brand tire, I would make sure that they are close to being the same as BFG KO2’s. Or go with another brand of UCA. Hindsight I should’ve done more research, probably would have gone with another brand because I wanted to hold on to the OR wheels for at least a couple of years, but hey it was inevitable that I would get new wheels, just got em sooner...

 

285's work on the OEM OR wheels just fine.

It's the combo of the JBA's with 285's and the OR wheels that can cause rubbing on the JBA UCA.

You can run all of these together if you get a wheel spacer.

Or you can run the OR wheels and 285's with a different UCA.

Or you can run the 285's and JBA's with a wheel that has a different offset and backspacing than stock.

Awesome, thank you for the info gents. I already have wheel spacers and was waiting to see how it looked with 285s before installing them.

I figured I would have to do some sort of trimming, etc. just wanted to make sure I didn't have to get new wheels for 285s.

Biggest issue with running 285 on stock wheels is the wheel width, regardless of what UCAs you run. It is “recommended” that a wheel width of 7.5 inches minimum for 285. You’ll end up ballooning the side walls. To each their own, but manufacturers know a thing or two (or at least we hope they do) which is why I went 275 KO2. Eventually I’ll run some 285 on SCS or something similar but for now the 275s look good, ride nice, even if they’re heavier than hell

 

The OR wheels are 7.5" wide.

 

My bad, I have the gray pro wheels, 17x7. Regardless, that’s why I’m sitting with 275

 

Gotcha. I suspected that's what you meant, but wast sure. Just wanted to make sure the correct info is out there for people considering OR (and Pro) wheels.

A lot of people still put 285's on 7" wide Pro wheels, but you're right, most tire manufacturers suggest at least a 7.5" wheel width for that tire size. I personally would have zero problem it, but some people do and that's fine.

 

just pulled the trigger! Supposedly they are in stock. Saved about $1k by not going with Icon stage one. Might as well get bigger tires to celebrate

 

Ordered in April, came in Yesterday... Just in time for another deployment. I guess they'll be waiting in the box.

 

Will post better pics later but finally got my kit installed today with the help of my buddy. Took about 3.5hrs and overall not bad a experience with the install. Thank god for the auto hobby shop here on base. Only paid $17 to use the lift.

 

Looks good man, nice having a lift to work on truck.

 

Update: Couldn’t help myself and had to test out the new lift on some trails with my friends. Got a little muddy but handled everything very well. Next up, tires!

 

Got the kit and 285 KO2's installed over the weekend. Love it!
