2024 TRD Pro Roof Racks

Looking to purchase a new 2024 4Runner TRD Pro. Unfortunately, I will need to replace the roof rack due to the low ceiling in our underground garage. Does the roof rack from the TRD Off Road fit onto the TRD Pro. I was told at the dealership they would not but wanted to confirm.

 

Welcome. It should be a direct fit either way. You can also do a roof rack delete.

 

Yes the regular rails fit. As usual the dealer has no idea what they are talking about

 

I'm in a similar situation where if I lift my TRD Pro the roof rack may not clear my garage door. I'm thinking aftermarket low profile roof rack so it not only clears my garage it would be more practical to mount traction boards, storage boxes or any other accessories when needed. (No I will not keep all that junk when I go for groceries or school runs)

Covers the threaded holes

 

It’s a kit that has covers for when you remove the rack. There is a thread somewhere here in the forums.

 

The 5th gen TRD Pros came from Japan w/ no roof rack. Instead, there are some blank panels that cover the roof rack mounting points. When these trucks arrived in port, the covers were removed so the TRD Pro Rack could be installed. You could get these from a Toyota dealer (which is a shame as I'm sure there are hundreds of these sitting in a box at the port facility).

 

I have done it 3 ways on my Pro. In my 20 Pro removed the roof rack and added the black rails then decided to go smooth top. Removed it and did the delete kit.

 

I don't suppose there's any way to have them leave off the Pro rack at the port...?

 

can use unistruts, very low profile, lots of attachment options as well. Thinking of replacing my orp rails. I am actually running ss unistrut crossbars, 100$ for a pair at grainger.

Just make sure whoever removes the Pro rack knows what they are doing or you will have to drop the interior liner to fix and that’s a pain in the ass. Plus you have to use heat (propane torch) to remove the factory installed bolts (they use red locktite) to loosen w/o stripping or breaking bolt head.

Thank you for the comments. Seemed odd to me that roof racks would not be interchangeable. This would be my first 4Runner so getting up to speed. On the fence between Terra and White. Both look extremely sharp.

 

I easily removed my OEM Pro rack without any heat required. A standard length ratchet handle had plenty of leverage and they broke free pretty smoothly. I guess it all depends on how much loc-tite was used, but once I fully removed all the bolts, they seemed to have a decent amount of it on them and I still had no issue getting them off. I was prepared for a challenge but they were easy and the entire rack removal took 15 minutes.

I'd suggest giving a try without the torch first, just don't go crazy with a long breaker bar or anything where you'll break something before it loosens. Also loosen both bolts at each attachment points before removing either one to keep the clip from shifting and needing to drop the head liner.

 

^^ Agreed. I can't imagine roof rack bolts having been installed within a few days or weeks prior would be all that much of a challenge to remove.

I’ll be replacing mine in the next few months. Everything I’ve seen says give it a try…If it doesn’t budge with moderate pressure, heat it up with a torch. Westcott designs has a video on this if it comes to this point.

 

and I think the other thing I was trying to emphasize was don’t allow the little white plastic tubes spin and fall off into your roof liner as you remove the bolts. That was the other issue folks encountered which required dropping the liner to fish them out.
