Ok fellas i financed a pre-owned 2014 4runner Limted literally a month ago(4/8/24) from CarMax @95,000 miles on it.so far it's been fun times.the vehicle looks new and drives like new.i wana drain, flush and refill the fluids because I'm feeling insecure knowing that dealerships put aftermarket fluids in their pre-owned vehicles.a 4runner deserves the best of fluids but I don't wana go to the toyota dealer because their estimated cost is over a $1,000 !!! And I think waiting for the 100,000 mile service is too long of a wait.what mechanic shop do you guys recommend I entrust my 4runner with ? PLEASE HELP !!!

AMD from The total car care nut YouTube channel is top choice but he's all the way in Chicago and I'm in new york.

    The engine fluids are:
    1.Coolant
    2.Power Steering
    3.Brake Fluid
    4.Transmission Fluid
    5.Engine Oil(0w-20)

I entrust myself. Always have...always will until I can no longer physically perform these duties.

I'm a new first time 4runner owner so I don't know nothing on how to drain, flush and refill engine fluids.but that's great that you can do it yourself.

Everything you have listed is on YouTube. Watch videos and learn. I do all my own maintenance and have learned easier ways from watching these YouTube videos. Also need to replace serpentine belt. A small shop might charge you almost as much as the dealer. Any 4WD clubs in your area? Good luck!

I would search for a good independent Toyota or Lexus shop and have them give you an estimate for the work. You can provide the parts/fluids, but most places will not warranty their work if you supply that.

If you have a garage to do the work yourself, most of it is pretty easy to do and rewarding to wrench yourself.

Why fuck with it? If it's not broken, don't fix it. You've already driven it a month and it sounds like you're happy. Wait until the 100K service. It's only 5000 miles or less. And, you're more than likely not going to be able to take a bunch of fluids to a shop and tell them to "use these". They will laugh.

True but those places aren't gonna use top of the line fluids.thats why I rather bring my own stuff.i live in an apartment I don't have the tools and garage space to lift up my 4runner to change fluids let alone flush them.im trying to keep costs down and pay mostly the labor work.

What do you consider "top of the line fluids"? Is your 4Runner going to know the difference? Are you? Would you consider Toyota brand oil superior to say, Mobil 1?

Never too late to learn, and I mean this with respect to you being a new to 4Runner owner/maintenance. How do you think everyone else does their own maintenance? Buy a Haynes manual or the factory Toyota repair manuals (expensive) and read how to perform these simple maintenance tasks.

Now if you just flat out don't want to, I get it. Then you are on someone else's rate.

I just don't trust others to perform my vehicle maintenance and way to much of a cheap ass to pay someone else to do it. This affords me to purchase things I want....

    IMG_4294.jpg

This is what I have been doing for the past 1.5 hours. Installing upper control arm and new shocks. No way in hell would I pay someone else 1000.00 to do this for me.

Top of the line fluids..like the toyota brand,Amsoil, and Mobile 1.Those are the "good stuff"....and yes a 4runner will know u fed her shitty fluids when it starts behaving weird like buring more fluids than it normally needs to.look man I'm playing it safe.

Are you in NYC (I doubt it) or upstate middle of nowhere?
I understand that you’re extremely happy and excited but calm down. It’s a Toyota and not a Pagani Zonda or Ferrari BB512. Doesn’t matter what brand of fluids you use.

    The engine fluids are:
    1.Coolant $?
    2.Power Steering $?
    3.Brake Fluid $145
    4.Transmission Fluid $400
    5.Engine Oil(0w-20) $80

$1,000 at the dealer isn’t that bad. Offer them $750 and you don’t have to deal with it.

Just do regular maintenance with recommended weights and viscosities and you'll be fine.
    Haha. Ok.
BTW, Toyota oil and Mobil 1 are the same.

You guys are talking like I own a garage somewhere or a neighbor is gonna let me bring over my 4runner make an oily mess on their pavement while changing the fluids....now look I have popped the hood on my 4runner many times just to look at the engine in amazement.everything is organized neatly and labled.dont you think I would love to give it some TLC ? It's like taking care of a pet.but I don't have a place to service her.so I'm just asking anyone for suggestion based on my situation that's all.so please stop thinking I don't wana deal with it.i just don't have the luxury of my own garage like some of you do.

Then a full blown fluid replacement service for $1000 is probably accurate.

You can request that the independent shop use OEM fluids or what you specify. They will charge more but should be more than happy to oblige. Just give a few shops a call and get a feel for them.

Just do some searching/investigating in your neck of the woods... read reviews... Check with BBB ... You finally find a shop you feel comfortable with... and a price you like... Ask them if you can supply your own fluids... The manual will tell you how much each takes..

I know one in Brooklyn and one Queens. Great guys and very hard workers. Are you interested? They don’t have time to shoot YouTube videos because the shop is always busy.

:D 1600 miles ($360) and $150-$200 in tolls plus hotel. Sounds like an amazing deal to me. Especially with his recommendation to change the oil every 5,000 miles. Man, you are a genius. Please introduce those people to me who drive from NYC to Chicago for maintenance. I have a very lucrative business proposal for them. 100% guaranteed.

That’s why we treat it like a comedy show. Everyone can take a role. I’m Jerry Seinfeld. I need a George and Kramer.
