Toyota 4Runner 3rd generation 2wd ltd 1999. Could you please tell me how many zerk fittings and slip-type joints are at the bottom for grease lubrication of the drive shaft and universal hook joints? This, I think, would be one slip-type connection and two universal joints.
I have tried to feel around with my hands but not could see or feel a protrusion of a zerk-type fitting. I spoke to two repair shops but they said that there are 4Runners whose underside did not come with zerk fittings, either on the drive propeller shaft or on the universal cardan joints.
Have you experienced any such situation? It seems difficult to understand that when there are slip-joints and anti-friction bearings how could they work for a long time without lubrication?
    Thank you very much.

None. Bone Stock. EXCEPT: Brushguard, tow hitch, both welded to the frame. It's good to have friends and a fully equipped garage!
As far as I know, and it aint far, the 2WD "propeller shaft", as Toyota calls it, hasn't any grease zerks in the u-joints, or any slip joints. I may well be wrong about the slip joint, though. Obviously, they have no front drive shafts, transfer cases, or double cardan joints. I know for a fact the u-joints in the 2WD pickup trucks don't. Only 1 u-joint at each end of the shaft. Which I have replaced 3 times now. No zerts, or any hole for one in either joint, even in the new u joints.
Compared to 0 times on the 87 4Runner I had for a long time. Just sold it a few years ago, when I went to get my 99. Never had to replace a u-joint once, and they had the zerts. Well it had them once I put them in. When I bought it in 97, none of the u-joints had the zerts in them, just a bolt in the hole they should go in. I bought a couple of kits, and installed the zerts every place I could find to put one. They NEEDED the grease, too. Once I lubed them up, they stayed in great shape. As long as I kept them lubed, obviously. I kept them greased every spring and fall.

The only other zerts I know of are in the upper and lower ball joints. The 87 4Runner I had had a zert in the end of the torsion bars where they adjust. Pickup doesn't.

    Good luck!
