YOSHl's 1999 4Runner Build

Hey all this is my first thread ever! What I got here is my 1999 Imperial Green Limited 4runner. I picked up this fine vehicle in the beginning of 2017, and named her Yoshi. Unfortunately I am a little late building this thread, and lost most of my pictures on my old phone.

I lost some gears on the Rubicon trail going up Cadillac hill, so i upgraded to 4.88s. Caleb Keller out of Sacramento did my gears he does awesome work if anybody is trying to go that route in are area.

 

I was flexing Yoshi out and was thinking about changing the links, and moving the shocks around to get more travel. i have a bare housing so i think im going to start with that to see where it goes.

 

had the day off, started to prep the new housing for new link setup. i think im going to do something close to this

 

looks sick!

 

any updates on this link setup? very curious on how it turned out

 

Hey all i have been out of commission pass months do to a injury. i also got a little side track and never got the time to take my DD AKA yoshi out of service to do the links yet.

 

next thing i started on was a spare tire carrier. i order a spare tire spindle and locking pin from Ruffstuff Specialties.

 

I wanted to make my tire sit as close as possible in the processes I started to worried about the carrier flexing and contacting the body but so far so good.

 

im self taught at welding but i feel like im starting to get the motion down.

 

a couple days later im pretty happy with the spare tire carrier. Ruffstuffs tire spindle is Super strong if anyone is looking for a good spindle i defiantly recommend them. i want to add a some Rotopaxs later on, maybe a high lift mount or cashing lights, im little undecided.

 

Its been a while since i last post. Now that summer is just around the corner i have to crack down on yoshi. A good friend of mine came and visited and snap some pics together. if anyone wants to know more of his tacoma this is his build

I needed to wire a bunch of lights so I decided to make a relay/fuse board. the board made wiring anything super easy all i have to do now is just ground the item and run just a positive to the board it self all the switch have been pre wired. the board just screwed in between the dash and the firewall inside the cab to keep things dry, it is all waterproof but i didn't want to take any chances.

 

After I wired all lights i have for now me and my buddies went on a climbing trip to bishop ca. had a bunch of fun and got to try out the lights.

 

Later on my other buddy @Pineapple_taco93 wanted to add a moon roof to his 2017 Tacoma, so i had to get on some of that action.

 

So I then got the need to modify my car after messing around with his truck witch has lead to where i stand now.

 

Later today i Just finished building the front axle and now im working on the rear. i still have to regear the rear diff and build some pates for my rear disk brake conversion hopefully i will have the axle ready for install later this week.

 

Made some more progress on the rear axle, I had to grind down my new axle shafts so that the stock rotor from my front end would fit in the rear. I also am using my old calipers from when i upgraded to tundra brakes, im a little worried about this setup working since i have found zero info on this setup, so hopefully it works out.

 

Made some progress today unbolted my ifs and got to cutting. i was able to cut and grind everything out, im getting pretty stoked to move on the the building part of things. on a side note im going to try to sell all my ifs goods so that i can buy tires. my currett setup is 4.88 gears front and rear also locked in the rear. SPC UCA and tundra brakes. my goal is to make the cash to buy some 37s

 

got my oil pan mounted so that I could put the axle under.

 

got the axle under, so I put my tires on real quick like to see how yoshi sits. I'm hoping that the leafs will drop 2 inches but I might have to pull another leaf. my approach angle is pretty savage though I was going to change it but figured I will wait to see what it looks like on 37s.

 

start on the steering, I have never installed hydro assist so after some reading I have everything in. my only problem at this moment is I'm having trouble getting all the air out if the system.

 

I was getting ancy I wanted to get the tire on again so i move on and mounting the shocks so that I could mount the tires the next day.

 

finally pulled yoshi out of the garage and drove her around the block. the steering still has air in it, if anyone has any tips on getting air out of the steering I am all ears.

 

got everything out and hung.

 

started to work on my rear differential and came across a couple of problems while putting it back together with the new 5.29s. so I stopped and ordered some more parts. i had nothing to do that day so I worked on getting the axle under the runner. Yoshi is sitting way to high for my taste so I'm probably going to pull alot of leaf from the front and the rear and see how she sits. I'm also thinking about sucking the suspension down to see if I can get the springs to settle more if it still is to high.

 

I got off work yesterday day and was able to put my taco box together. it's been snowing so there been a lack of motivation to work on yoshi, but I'm trying to get her all setup for moonrocks on memorial weekend.
