Thankfully, I have glass coverage. Have to replace my 2020 windshield, it only lasted 7k miles. I was shocked to see the cost, almost $1600!!

Apparently, all the safety sensors above the rear view mirrors have to be recalibrated. It has to be done in a shop and only a few companies can do it. None of the mobile shops can do it.

TLDR you better get glass coverage!

There are no safety sensors above the rear view mirror, it’s one camera mounted to the windshield that needs to be calibrated. Mobile places can’t do it because they aren’t going to bring an alignment rack with them but the calibration is not a big deal for any shop with a current alignment rack and the calibration board. It’s basically just precisely placing a target and telling the camera to learn it’s position. This has been the norm for the past decade on pretty much every vehicle with drivers assist systems beyond adaptive cruise and blind spot monitoring.

I had a stone hit my windshield on my 20204Runner, less than 5k miles.
Replacement for the windshield was $730 plus 120 in labor.
Then another $250 for recalibrating so $1160 total.
BUT.... they did vacuum and clean the windows....such a deal.
    Fortunately insurance covered it.

Yeah, expensive, for sure. You can’t have it all. Everyone wants features, so I guess cost comes with them.

That is no joke! Look @ the cost of a Ford Super Duty or F-150 (for example) rear taillight with the radar function! Not only that, my buddy has a Hyundai with backup censors. He was hit in the fender/bumper corner. The body shop (by law) must replace all censors so a bumper for a 3yr old car worth $13k is over $2k!
    Insane...

For sure, 4Runner fun! I’ll second that! I have a friend with an older GM car, no big deal, but she’s a senior on a fixed income and she didn’t drive it much, and kept it in good shape. Unfortunately someone ran into her - minor damage, fixable! But the air bags went off and the insurance company wrote it off! She had to struggle to find another car and it cost her money to do it that she didn’t have.

The windshield also has built in defroster wires for the wiper defrost . I think the windshield is a special order now?

That is why I have bug deflectors on mine. I hate the look of them but they can stop small rocks from impacting my windshield and causing cracks in some instances, so its worth it imo.

Mobile service can do it. ADAS is more equipped with dedicated system. Alignment is limited in ADAS.

Living in Arizona, windshields are constantly being assaulted by rocks Replacements happen every few years.

Thats not so bad, in the Colorado replacing your windshield is an annual right of spring marking the end of ski season lol. I’ve had my 4Runner 6 years and I’ve had my windshield replaced 4-5 times now and it’s currently cracked again.

Safelite is the one that quoted $1600? Oddly enough OEM was cheaper at $1460.
