Really curious your knowledge on the subject. Dealership said $1200 because it needs to be recalibrated. Apart from stearlership pricing, what needs to be recalibrated?
Local auto glass shop with great long standing reputation says not necessary if he doesn’t unplug camera. Says he does newer 4Runners all the time. $360. What camera? Wife was told, for predictive cruise control, lane assist, etc.
I thought those sensors are up front in and around grill. Is it not?
    What are your thoughts?

Forward looking camera for automatic braking? My wife's 2021 Forester has them. Reason #2,580 why I got a 2019 4Runner instead of a 2020.

Page 254 of the '21 OM.

    PCS (Pre-Collision System)

"The pre-collision system uses a radar sensor and front camera to detect vehicles and pedestrians in front of your vehicle."

Worthwhile reading from that point(pg 254) if you care to. Lots of valuable information on the systems function.

    And there's this.
    https://www.safelite.com/windshield-camera-recalibration

    Not an endorsement.

Thank you. Didn’t know that was in the windshield. If there’s a camera in there, I can’t see it.

    Bone stock!
The radar in the front works with the camera. The camera looks for lane departure, automatic high-beam switching, and plays a role with the PCS, as Moon Landing says.

Should be pretty obvious if you look to the left of the rearview mirror standing outside the truck.

Yes, but it has to be done each time it's restarted.

I guess there is no option, let the insurance take care of the glass replacement.

It only cost me $314 (or something like that) to replace my glass (parts + labor + tax) on my 2017. Now with my 2021 if anything like this happens I will let dealership do all that and let insurance pay the bill.

Some good info on this topic. Watch when you get a chance. This is why I haven't even lifted my 2021 yet (all my other 4Runners are lifted).

Yes, you have something like this at the bottom of the windshield.

Same reason I bought a 2019. I still drive the old fashioned way - by paying attention. :)

I carry a $0 deductible on comprehensive and $250 on collision. My monthly premium is $67 with State Farm. Windshields fall under comprehensive and State Farm will pay for OEM since there isn't a compatible OEM quality. Also, my broker told me most of the time they will pay for OEM on body panels too for fitment reasons as it saves them on labor.

Just saying conversations are free....price out every option of deductibles with your broker. You might be surprised.

I have glass coverage with my insurance, I can do the claim all online and even set the appointment with Safelite. They covered the alignment cost as well for both my F150 and my Yukon.

I'm kinda happy my '16 has literally none of the cool tech, no driver assists, no sunroof, ect.

I do have a sweet CD player though haha

Guess it depends on the local? They have actually done 5 windshields for me and I never had an issue. Three were on my plati F150 and two on my Yukon, one was about two weeks after I bought it

Windshields are a problem here in Alberta. I purchased a “smart program” package with my 2021 TRD Venture that gives me unlimited scratch and paint chip repairs, unlimited crack and chip glass repairs and up to 4 new windshields for 5 years. $1400 CDN.

Glass is free in Massachusetts/no deductible/ can use any glass place you like..and all glass not just windshield. Probably one reason why insurance is so expensive here?

I called my insurance company a few months ago when I found out it was almost $1500 to replace my windshield if broken. I have two chips that could turn into cracks. Found out I had $1000 deductible. For $6/month now I have a $0 deductible.

The glass coverage I have also has no deductible and a claim doesn’t go against my regular policy thus it doesn’t drive future costs. When I called to get coverage the lady asked me if I wanted the same coverage I had on my F-150. I told her that’s her field of expertise and to look at it and tell me what I need. She recommended the glass coverage and I was shocked how inexpensive it was so covered my wife’s CRV as well. And it’s all the glass, not just the windshield.

Yes, I'm actually having mine replaced on Wednesday by my dealer glass guy. I have $0 deductible with USAA on comp and it isn't costing anything. They stated that I will have to pay the dealer $260 to do the calibration, but then I can submit it to USAA for reimbursement. Yes, 20's and above, it's a must when replacing your windscreen. Mine was bad... Felt the stone hit this morning and it made a nice giant star that started spreading like wildfire... Oh well, and such is life...

    Cheers,

    Sean

My 2021 ORP just turned 3k miles. After reading this Thread it sounds like I will be missing the simplicity of my 2010 FJ Cruiser.
I have Safeco Insurance. The deductible on my Comp is $500.00. But for windshield only, there's no deductible. I believe this ACV for windshield is standard on all Safeco auto policies. And I believe Safelite Auto Glass is owned by Safeco (which is owned by Liberty Mutual), if you can grasp all that. LOL.
