Maybe some of you smart folks can help me here. I also own a Toyota Highlander. Sometimes the 10mm bolt comes loose or falls off the bottom of the regulator. (Should put loc-tite on it and be done with it). Tonight, when I was fixing it, I noticed that the window regulator track moves side to side if you grab the top of the window and shift it left to right. Shouldn’t that stay stationary? The window won’t stay in the rubber channel as a result.

When you say side to side you mean towards the inside then outward? either way there are 6 of the 10MM bolts that hold the regulator in against the inside door and then there are two 10mm bolts that hold the glass to the regulator if they are all in place and tight it is possible that the center Pivot is worn out on the Regulator and what a PITA it is to get big hands in there if you drop anything down inside!

If it Moves front to back then again the Center Pivot could be worn out and or the plastic rollers worn or even missing one, As for Loctite I would not use it on the Glass retainers.

Thanks for the quick reply. The bottom track that the two 10mm bolts attach to moves left to right (not front to back).

Then make sure the other 4 bolts (also 10mm) that hold the regulator assembly are tight if they are possible worn regulator unit.

Are those the 10mm heads affixed to the door metal?

The problem is there are no 10mm sockets or wrenches left in the world, they have all disappeared.

We finally figured out the problem! The glass had slipped out of the track on one side. Once I loosened the two 10mm nuts and raised the glass, we were able to slip it down both tracks.

    Thanks for all the help!
