No harsh feelings about your posts. 1st amendment! I love it.
I am very upset that we can objectify a women based on a picture yet as there are mostly adults are on this site; we are banned from political discussions.
Maybe the mods need to create a "thick skin" political etc thread with a warning.
Civil discourse is critical in understanding the scope of the global pandemic and other topics (including points from both sides that are fact & could possibly change others thinking).
This is real life & isn't necessarily political but the media makes it out to be that way.
Every smart person knows that now is the time to unite as a nation & get on the same page!

I think the reasoning there is that people aren't likely to end up hating each other over whether or not they find the same girl attractive.

Unfortunately, many people are so caught up in their political views, that they seem to think that anyone who disagrees is an asshole.. Or a racist.. Or a xenophobe.. Etc, etc.

Political discussion pretty much ALWAYS leads to bickering. Sure, some people can disagree and debate things without getting upset. But, not everyone. And, it's probably best to just keep that door shut so we can focus on the stuff that brings us to these forums.

 

Oh, and I like Jan. A little less after having a few kids, but she's still pretty good looking.

See. We're already arguing about discussing the fact that we can't discuss politics!

 

I do agree with your points to an end. Not being able to talk about life (especially now) & how/what our leaders & many other around the world are doing. It is now truly current events. I am not saying we need to debate who will run for president or slander anyone. I just feel if I have to "edit" my posts I am not being fully honest & that can also lead to anger.
I absolutely believe that we should have a main focus on our common interests; but civil discourse can be done & done well if people try!

 

First, yes it is a very silly question for your reasons and more.
I brought it up because I feel that the 1st amendment is our most critical! I see posts on here that are hidden from the main forum & now a directive to cancel free speech about a worldwide pandemic & how it is being handled or any other topics that may involve "politics". To answer your question in short would be that I don't like the objectification of a woman based on a picture or her looks. I also don't like censorship.

 

@ForRun & I are civil and have the ability to discuss this & not get angry at each other. I liked his post & gave a thoughtful response. Nothing is to be gained by fighting. Civil discourse can open people's mind to new ideas & lines of thinking. I find myself questioning things on a regular basis & making a stance based upon it. I also find myself changing my mind if new evidence is brought to light. Fluid education...

It's their right to allow or not allow certain topics of discussion when starting a forum.

 

I can do the same. But, many people can't.

99.999% of political discussions on forums like this end up as total dumpster fires.

Not once in my life have I seen a political discussion on an internet forum lead to someone changing their views. I'd be willing to bet that it has never happened.

If you want to discuss politics, there are places for it. If you want to discuss politics with people on this forum, start a private conversation with them.

I don't get why people complain about the rules on a free forum.

 

I don't believe the original spirit of this thread was to objectify women. It just turned into that after a few posts. The topic is "Who's in love with the Toyota girl?", not "who wants to _____ the Toyota girl?"

 

I agree. It wasn't the intention of the original post.......it just devolved to that quickly.

 

I have no desire to actually talk about most politics as I am just not interested or informed well enough. However, some things in life revolve around politics.

I am not trying to complain about the rules. I do see a few double standards but as stated those rules are determined by the site creators and I respect that.

I hear ya. It leaks into so much of our daily lives and affects everything we do.

If people would remember that we all probably agree about more stuff than we disagree about, a good discussion could take place.

Unfortunately, so many are polarized to one extreme or the other. These are the ones that would cause trouble and make the mods have to constantly clean up after them.

I guess we'll have to settle for debating over who makes the best bumper, winch, coilovers, tires, sunglasses, coolers, ETC.

In a "private life" kinda setting, I'd love to have her as a friend. Because I just simply love women in general.
When things turn political or religious, I'll tune out.
