2023 4Runner TRD off road premium
I’m new to this, just bought a 2023 4Runner Trd off road premium. The tires it came with won’t be enough for the foot of snow I commonly get here in CO. I looking at buying a second set of wheels with off road tires. The car salesman said Nitto’s are good but I also heard BFGoodrich all terrain T/A KO2 are good. I’m looking at getting these on a second set of rims and switching them out in the summer when we’re only city driving.

So, best off-road tires for serious snow and serious 4wd Colorado mountain roads? And what wheels should I get? Some people say to get the Trd pro wheels. I know nothing about this, any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I'm personally a fan of the off road wheel design, they protect the valve stems better than the pro wheels. They are also slightly wider, so if you go to a wider tire tire you don't have issues with people not wanting to mount them for being too narrow. Wish they were black.

As for tires, you will get a million, bazillion, kagillion opinions. Mine? I'd say if you see a lot of wet pavement, maybe KO2s may not be the best. I ran KOs and has minor issues with wet traction and seems KO2 may be the same. If you don't have a heavy foot it may not be an issue.

If concern is snow, most any 3PMS would probably suffice. Maybe look at the mickey Thompson Baja Boss? I just got new tires but kinda wish I had tried them.

I should probably follow up with what tires I did choose. I went with cooper discoverer rugged treks in P285/70. I actually like them but haven't run them for very long - the 285/70 just doesn't have the 3PMS. If we got more snow, I probably would have gone with the stock size 265/70 in XL load because they are 3PMS. I would also have liked the XL load (which is close to a C load from what I read) but in my size they only came in P or E - the E were a good bit heavier and also didn't have the rating.

Not sure why the larger size didn't get 3PMS when the stock size did - I also read somewhere they have to pay for each size/load rating to be certified so maybe they got lazy, cheap, or just haven't gotten around to it yet

255/75R17's are becoming popular. The narrower tread supposedly cuts through mud and snow better than wider tires. They are also a bit taller than a wider tire. I haven't read any negatives about this size tire. Goodyear Duratrac's are getting a good reputation, also. Be sure whatever tire you get has the 3PMS badge.
