I've seen at least one thread that mentioned a tire shop making a deal for (new) factory tires when making an upgrade. Is this a very common practice? I've never parted with tires that had life left in them, much less ones that are fresh off the dealer's lot, but that sort of transaction would be convenient in this case.

Some dealers will give you something for the "take offs". Keep in mind that irrespective of the remaining tread, tires go bad and become dangerous over time, maybe 6-8 years, so if you think you can use them again someday but years in the future, you are kidding yourself and using valuable space to store them.

Oh yeah, there's no way I'm storing them for any length of time. I have enough stuff to get rid of already.

To the tire shop, or a separate sale?

Sold them on Craigslist. You could try fb marketplace too. Plenty of people wanting new tires for cheap compared to the tire store.

$50 a piece to a small, local tire shop that sells used tires... 2 days after taking delivery of my 4Runner.

Life is too short to run those stock Dunlops until the tread wears down. Besides, they would have failed on the trail in no time anyway.

Discount Tire gave me $75 a tire with 7k miles on them. I believe they have managers discretion when buying back tires. Some managers won’t do it, most will, and you can kinda sense a small bit of haggling room (I asked for $75 a tire and they obliged rather quickly, maybe I shoulda asked for $100?).

Facebook market place and Craigslist are my preferred tire selling places. My fastest sell was I took pics of the tires while I was at the dealership and they were sold with in hours. The buyer came to discount tire to pick my 5 tires next day when I got my new tires installed.

    Edit -
Price $500 for 5 tires Dunlops.

And same story for other parts like wheel, skids, suspension, LED bulbs, etc.. which is how I reduce my out of pocket expense for my mods videos :):)

You may get rid of them, for free, for someone to come get them. Bout it.

Cant imagine anyone wanting oem rubber. But good luck. (hell, pro suspension people take off, no one wants)

I sold take offs and lightly used tires (from 4Runner, a Subaru Forester and a RAV4) on FB Market Place and Craigslist. Between $300-$400 for all 4 tires

Lots of owners, who want/need to swap wheels and tires, like me who just want to stay with OEM wheels and not have to do maths on size offset, etc. And just bolt on and go.

Whether they want something different or need to replace broken wheels.

I sold mine on Facebook marketplace for $800. They were changed out at the dealer and it was the tires and rims. The sales guy from Toyota who is a 4runner guy, told me that I would likely get $800-700 for them but I tried to start a bit higher. After about a month of slowly dropping the price I finally sold them for $800, right where he said I would. There is a local person here who has some that were also swapped at the dealer from her 22 ORP. She is still trying to sell them for $1500........ I often see them listed on marketplace locally just like the set I sold and they typically start high and end up being gone once they come down around $800. I recommend getting on Facebook marketplace and see what they are going for in your area.
