Greetings! Newbie here. Just bought a black 2019 T4R TRD Premium last month and I love it! I included a pic. I want to make some modifications and I don't know what to start with since it seems to me that one will impact the other.

I want to install KDSS, get new black matte 17" TRD rims (it came with the stock silver rims), get new tires (285/70/17 Nitto Ridge Grapplers) and a lift of about 2.5". What order do I do these in if I have to take time to save up before making the next purchase?4R TRD P.jpg

Did I read that right? You want KDSS installed?

Yes. It does not have KDSS and I was reading in the posts that if you have KDSS and you then lift the truck you can damage the KDSS.

You should have bought one with KDSS. It’s an expensive system ($5k+) to even repair/replace.

Lifting and damaging the KDSS is false information. Sure, it’s possible if you don’t know what you’re doing but I’ve lifted two KDSS equipped 4Runners with zero issues.

KDSS is installed at the factory prior to vehicle shipment and adding it on is a major undertaking

Take what you have and throw a 2.5”-3” lift on it, the TRD wheels and 285’s and call
    It good!

Good advice about the KDSS! (Lesson for next time.) Thanks!

Should I do a 2.5" or a 3" lift? Also, do 285/70/17 fit on the 17" TRD wheels?

Greetings! First thing I did was Linex'd the front and rear silver covers and all the badges. A lot of people just wrap the badges but I like the texture of the Linex. Certainly made the truck stand out a little from the rest in my area...that and tint (depending on state laws ;) ). Looks good though, I do love the black..just here in the PNW where it never stops raining, it's too hard to keep clean for me. Some would argue that the 4runner isn't supposed to be clean...:mudding:

Anyway, congrats! Wheels and tires, lift etc are all big upgrades that do create a dominoe effect from one to the next or all at the same time. The very reason I haven't done those yet. Besides, my wife is 5'2" and thinks it's already too tall...so my wheels/tires/lift will also come with steps..

since you’ll run into rubbing issues with 285’s on TRD wheels without a lift, I recommend the lift first. Then installing the TRD wheels with 285’s will be no issues.

Welcome to the club, one thing I read somewhere is getting a better suspension like Icon or such will give you the same stiffness as the KDSS system without that cost. My first MODs were just cosmetic ones until I have the truck for a while and see what I actually need to get better use out of.

Appreciate it. There's a lot of good looking setups here, just wish I had the means to do everything I want right now...I'm not good at the waiting game! :frustrated:

Another upgrade would be to an AGM battery. Better current and lasts longer. Too bad we can’t use Lithium with our charging systems. I just got one for the bike. It’s SO light and supposed to have a lot more cranking amps....3194B73C-0204-4F80-BF9C-A2F993AEFECB.jpg

My .02, led headlight, and reverse lights. New springs/lift to kill the Cadillac float and a good all terrain/all weather set of rubber.

You should probably start with the 4Runner Mod Starter Pack

An Icon suspension will cost more than the KDSS option. Also, no aftermarket suspension can do what KDSS does. Anyone who says that it will doesn't understand what KDSS is.
