I will feel good about myself if the difference is 3 MPG and not more than that

    I’m old, I barely drive 75 on a 80 Interstate.

Old enough to know better. I’m into risk analysis and critical thinking. ;)

If the rest of the traffic is going 80+ (almost guaranteed) then you’re not doing a very good job of risk analysis and critical thinking if you think that slower is safer in that case

I’m sorry but, IMO there’s nothing safe about driving 90mph, maybe anywhere, but definitely not on a public highway.

Even on a controlled environment syrup like a track or drag strip, that's just asking to meet the ghost of Christmas future in these air catching beasts. And at that time, does mpgs really even matter? Lol.

Speed limit for trucks is 65 mph, and 80 for the cars. Now it is your choice, do 70 behind the trucks or 90 among the cars. There are only two lanes, the choice is yours :notsure:

They will crucify you if you are caught doing 90 on NJ Turnpike or I495. 90 is feasible in places like Montana, New Mexico, Idaho, and Easten Oregon where the limit is 80. You can do 90 all day long without any other shenanigans and troopers wouldn't care, they are fishing for 100+ drivers

So 80-85 is ok there, but 90 is horrible?

You will change your mind when you are in the middle of Montana and hardly make any progress with keeping the limit of 80.

80 is not ok on NJ Turnpike. You do 80 and you will beg the trooper not to give you the reckless citation.

So you think I've never been out west? We're talking about two different environments - NJ and Montana. Covering ground at 85 with a mile between cars is different from driving 85 bumper-to-bumper.

So what is it that we are disagreeing about? 90 in 80 zone in Montana is fine, Montana troopers know that and don't care. 70 on BQE in NYC is not fine, and not even feasible

I've never gone 90 for a long enough stretch to have any idea. But, I got around 18 mpg at 80-85 when it was stock.

90/+ in a 4runner is asking for trouble.
Here in Texas, the speed limit is more of a suggestion, but even then on the highway that says 70MPH, 80 is the most i am willing to do in this bouncy bread box.
And at 80, I am getting around 18.5 mpg. If I bring it down to 70, I am close to 19.5 mpg

The only vehicle I was ever comfortable cruising at 90-100 in was my S6. First of all, it was designed for it, second of all, it had 16" 6pot carbon ceramic brakes and tires RATED for that kind of speed.

I get a mile or 2 better without using cruise control. Forgetting about how bad the radar adjusting cruise is for a sec, this vehicle's cruise control is terrible. Somehow even worse than my 2nd Gen Taco. Stock everything I get around 20mpg on the interstate and thats going 75-80. I got 22 for one tank but was with a decent tailwind

90! I think the fastest I've gotten mine up to is 88 then I jumped in time! I forgot the Flux Capacitor was on again.

I’m not opposed to speed, but the 4Runner is not the appropriate vehicle for that. One twitch on the steering wheel and it would be rolling in a ditch for a long ways.
