Hey there - my 2005 SR5 with about 160k is finally rusting on the frame and I'm weighing my options for what's next.

Curious - what kind of appetite is there out there for such a car with frame rust issues? There are also some other things that need to be fixed (4WD, cracked bumper, etc.). Is it worth trying to sell (with full transparency on the issues) for someone to repair/use for parts/tinker with etc, or should I donate it? If sellable, any idea how much to ask for?

Thanks in advance for your thoughts on this! Pics of holes due to rust are attached.

For extra context - the car has leather seats, roof rack, and sunroof.

I think you would have a hard time selling this unless you offered it at a very low price. If you could trade it in that would be best case although dealer probably won't give you much for it. With the 4wd not working and rust issue you may get around 3k if that much. Is it a V8 or V6. I would try selling it at first and if no one bites, donate it.

Thanks, @trlhiker ! It's a V6. Honestly, $3k is even more than I was thinking, and I'd be thrilled to get that much... or even $2k.

Yeah, the sad thing about human nature is that someone will take advantage of your honesty, buy it cheap, and then hide the rust and flip to some unsuspecting person who may be naive about Toyota rust issues and always wanted a 4 Runner but couldn’t afford one. But I guess there’s not much you can do about that.

Ah, good point @Oldtoyotaguy . I definitely don't want to screw anyone else over inadvertently. We may just drive her into the ground, and then give her a Viking funeral to the junkyard.

I hate being negative, cynical and distrustful, but I have that sinking feeling that the almighty dollar rules most of the time.
