2024 ORP, about 450 miles in odometer

I parked my truck at the grocery store, next to another 4Runner (not sure if relevant).

I got out, hit the handle to lock it and it beeped multiple times (maybe 8-10?).

Not normal so I tried to unlock driver side door and nothing happened. Tried passenger door and nada.

I went to open the back to get in the trunk and nothing happened.

Pulled out my key fob and tried to unlock/lock it, nothing happened.

Confusion then slight panic set in. Thinking of what to do next? Call my husband? Call the tow truck? Change the key fob battery (yes, I carry a brand new one in my purse just in case)?

After 2 minutes (felt like 10 minutes), tried the driver side door again and it unlocked. More confusion set in.

Got in, started it, hooked up my phone, apple car play wouldn’t work. My playlist wouldn’t play when I tried to play from my phone either.

Drove around the grocery store parking lot, parked, got out and locked it. It worked fine. I unlocked it again, got in, started just fine. So I stopped it, got out and went on with my grocery shopping.

Drove home fine. No further problems (knock on wood)

But what happened? Why no power and then it came back on?

I wouldn't over think it too much, just drive it straight up to the nearest Toyota dealership and tell them to look into it. That's what warranties are for. It sounds like you may have a bad battery or an electrical gremlin messing with stuff.

If you close the door but its "not quite" closed and you hit the lock button, instead of your normal "meep meep" you will get a
"beep beep beep beep beep beep beep beep"
This is to tell you that one of the doors was left open / cracked and would not lock. All you gotta do is open / close that door again and re-lock it and it will go back to normal.

I tried to open every single door to see if any was open, including the back. All were closed all the way.

If that was the case, would my key fob not work either? It wouldn’t lock or unlock with it.

I’ll try recreating it tomorrow with one door barely closed and see it that’s the case. Thanks.

If a door is a jar or a window is down then it will beep at you a lot when you try to lock it. This happened to me once when I went to lock my truck, but I forgot I had my sunroof open. It gave me a loooooooooooooooong beep when I tried to lock it.

In case you didn’t know, if your key fob runs out of battery, you can use the physical key to unlock the door, and if you put the dead key fob right next to the push button as you press to start the car it’ll turn on and let you drive. So you can just keep your spare battery at home instead of in your purse

    Good to know. Thanks.

The spare battery is for my Nissan key fob. I wonder if the nissan works the same as the 4Runner.

Most fob's use the same battery, the CR 2032. Google it, they're super cheap and very universal.

I recreated this, one door ajar, closed 3 other doors. Tried to lock it and it gave me one long continuous beep, not multiple beeps like the original problem.

Coming to this feed from a response to me post from Lucky9924.
I have a 2015 runner trd pro I got out of my 4runner I want to lock the door and I had no power to my key fob. I tried to lock it from the inside and there was no power so I tried to start my car and I have no power whatsoever. I sat there for like two minutes and then all the power came back. so I’m trying to figure that out and I can’t find anything about it. if any of you got any ideas, let me know. Appreciate it

You will probably have problems with your keyless entry model in about 8 years. Its from dampness. The Corolla has been acting up.

Had that exact problem with my 2024. There was a problem with one setting in the electronics. Somehow it switched right after I changed some of my preferences regarding the locking and unlocking. Door handle lock and unlock worked but keyfobs did nothing. I fixed it myself by buying a Carista on Amazon. I learned of the problem on this website in another forum. The dealer can also fix it I just didn't want to leave it for such a simple fix.

I didn’t change my settings at all though. And the door handle didn’t work either—completely dead and inoperable for those 2 minutes.

I recreated this too. It did beep multiple times but the truck couldn’t be locked. Key fob and door handle still worked. It didn’t make the power completely dead for 2 minutes.

    Thanks for the idea though.

OP, did you have your key in your purse near your phone?

Check your owners manual, page 105
